Default A call out for speakers (Ted talk style) at the National

** A call-out for vintage card speakers at the national **

My son and I are looking to organize a few lunch and learn sessions, or perhaps over morning coffee, to bring together Collectors to hear & learn from other Collectors who had unique and interesting experience with certain sets, unique, Vintage card stories, or are just simply entertaining speakers who want to show off their favorite cards!

We haven’t identified the venue or details, but I wanted to start across these vintage FB pages because so many of you have so much knowledge that I think it would be fun to organize away for you to share with other Collectors.

We probably will have room for 6 to 8 speakers in a bit of a TED talk format.

Please reach out if this might be of interest to you. Just tell us a bit about your area of focus or expertise and we’ll start to sift through some of your ideas and see if we can string together some interesting sessions.

I was honestly inspired by this yesterday, listening to a podcast a few years ago that I found to be so excellent and informative about the 1914 cracker jack set.

I think this is an area that’s a little underserved in the hobby and what better place than the national to share what we all know? (Especially from this group)

And if you have nominations for Great speakers that I should reach out to proactively, please don’t hesitate to make suggestions.

Thanks all

Jeff

Hey Jeff --

I'd love to speak. My background and expertise is in 1909-1916 Deadball -- in the media technologies emergent at the time, the printing methods, economic conditions; rapid scaling of globalization and industrialization which produced the overarching social, political, and cultural conditions which themselves are the Deadball ethos and aesthetic quality that we observe in the remaining artifacts and documents from the era. I also talk about how cultural and collective memory functions to create the image and images of this bygone era.

Everything from photographic, lithographic (cards), journalistic, and documentary artifacts like letters and contracts/founding documents are fair game in my work; I incorporate them all.

Started at the Smithsonian NMAH as a baseball archivist (the only one on staff) when I was a teenager; got my masters in Philosophy and Cultural Studies. Essays in SABR groups as well as on my personal Substack accessible here and on YouTube. Linking both so you can see where I would fit in your seminar list.

I would have to be Zoom/remote if you can swing it, if not, no worries. Message me here or on FB since we've already started convos together?

Best,
David
