eBay has been a complete dead zone for me, but I decided to take a chance on these two 'stained' (air quotes) cards, because I'm going to break them out, put the panty hose to 'em and include them in my upcoming SGC submission video.
It's only a tiny bit of gum residue on the fronts, so it'll come off lickety split, and the Mantle HR Leaders card was graded very recently, so it is a true 8. Hopefully SGC will agree. The Rose is more of a risk, considering what it cost me, but let's see what happens... 1965ALHRLeadersMantlePSA8ST1966ROSEPSA6ST.jpg

I think this all happened 9/1 or later...
I had not intended to do so much with "bigger" cards (for me, anyway) so soon after the National - but sometimes you have to strike when the iron is hot with local opportunity. The '57 Brooks was a longtime want, busted out of an older PSA 6 holder. I now have to decide I suppose if I'm going to make an assault on the entire 1957 Topps set, as I find myself unexpectedly with the two biggest cards in it. The '57 Power Hitters is not one of those, but this PSA 4 was a nice upgrade to my raw G/VG-ish one at a show last weekend. Nice stuff, everyone. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks. Yeah, the '61 Clemente is a sleeper favorite. Love the green in that card. His first batting title season.

I went to the Philly Show on Friday and added these three cards to my collection. I’m now two steps closer to a ‘56 Topps set and picked up my seventh different base card of Mantle.

.There is no such thing as a bad picture of Yogi Berra's face except this out-of-focus grotesquely-registrationed 1957 Topps #407 "Yankees Power Hitters " card. So bad , so bad. ( and to add insult to injury it is soooo hard to find 407 so damned well-centered.)
PS I've always thought Harold Carmichael was movie-star/ male model handsome. |

I'm taking a bit of poetic licensing here. Only because the Hammer played Pre 1980.
I am happy to have been able to find these commemorative stamps of Hank Aaron.

That is cool. Is it an actual book of stamps or the poster from the Post Office?

Ben,
It is a sheet of 20 stamps on the plate. There are, or were, rolls of Hammer stamps. But I did not pick any of them up. Cheers, B.T.

Nice, at our PO they sometimes have posters up to advertise commemorative stamps they have for sale. I have been going to ask about getting one when it is baseball related but always forget while there.

Couple weeks later we are on a road trop to Ely, NV. As we are driving through all the small towns, I'm scoping out post offices, we stop at a couple and on the third attempt SCORE!! So I got two. That was much more fun to attach to the stamp buy then if I had just gotten them in town. Nice road trip, Hammer Stamps, and a nice little vacation in Ely. Nv. Nothing but net.... B.T.

Maybe it's just me, since I've been collecting for so long, but I keep seeing these cards graded PSA/SGC 5's and 6's, that back in the day would have been sold as Nm/Mt all day long. It makes these cards seem like the obvious type of card to purchase if you want a reasonably priced card with great eye appeal.

Maybe not all that rare, but certainly elusive.
I finally ran across a 1973 Topps Frank Howard signed card. To me, this seems rather scarce. The later inserts are plentiful but not, seemingly, the actual 73 card and Franks autograph. But, now I have one and he shall be set free to join his other cards in my Frank Howard binder. Cheers, Butch

Not particularly expensive, and he's far from a Hall of Famer, but he did pitch in parts of 25 seasons, throw over 3,800 innings (just outside the top 50 all time) and throw one mean knuckleball!
He also finished his career with exactly 216 wins and 216 losses, which I found interesting. ![]() Vintage Spotlight: The Best Rookie And Star Cards From 1973 Topps

Man, he pitched for my Rangers for years. Loved watching him throw. Not overly fast speed on his pitches, but I'm glad I didn't have to catch that. You know it's a good knuckler when you can see the seams when the pitch is in the air.

1976 O-Pee-Chee Ron Guidry #599 PSA 7
Another guy who wasn't a Hall of Famer, but has an argument. Guidry was 170-91 with a 3.29 ERA and was worth 47.8 WAR in his career. The OPC has only been graded 43 times by PSA (the Topps has been graded 1,651). Vintage Spotlight: The Best Rookie And Star 1976 Topps Baseball Cards ![]()

You know it's a good knuckler when you're sitting behind home plate and you look the catcher in the eyes.
