Default What is going on with this guys 1958 Topps cards?

While searching for 1958 3rd Series miscuts for Kevin's latest project I kept running across some very odd 1958 Topps commons from one eBay seller. They have huge borders, razor sharp corners, are a brilliant white on the front, and are poorly printed on the front and back. I am guessing someone is printing these up for pennies and hoping to sell them for a couple of dollars to turn a profit. I don't know if the seller has similar bogus cards from other years, I didn't look. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_dkr...w=1958%20topps

Maybe he should substitute "weird" for "nice". Think I will buy one to see what I get

Edit---I offered $1 for Shaw and he took it. Will rteport back when received

It looks like they have been printed on photo paper stock, and smudged during the printing process.

None of the above in my guess. The blur is from photoshop stretching to his weird dimensions. The borders are whitened and the miscut ones are stretched to make colored borders. All his scans are photoshopped to square them and clean the borders. It’s a mess.

The feedback says this. The only reason it’s not worse is he probably takes a ton of returns

Ahhhh, I think you’re right, but what a bizarre thing to do and take the time to do. The seller apparently thinks it’s worth it though.

Strange. They look like reprints or fakes, but who is going to bother to fake a ‘58 Topps Bob Shaw?

Its his scanner / scanner settings. Looking at his other items, it appears he's upgraded to a Fujitsu since.

Is it possible these were cut from a printer's sheet that was misprinted? The only thing that makes me think that is because some of the cards seem to have color bleed into the white portion. That seems like an odd failure with a modern printer. Just a thought.
