3 of the 5 stats in the bos score are fielding. I wonder when that changed.

Interesting observation about the fielding stats. Back in the day of small ball, maybe defense was looked at as a nuanced part of the game, but then when Babe and the HRs came, that ended that.

Outs, errors, but what is “a” (assist?)?

Yes, you can see that from which fielders have them.

Suppose you were magically transported back in time to this game and watched it from the stands. Do you think you would be more struck by what was different back then, or what was the same as now?

Plus the chance to get a Wagner and Young auto on a dated ball would be pretty cool too. |

I think what would strike me most would be just recognizing all the players' faces. Like, whoa, that player looks exactly like the T207 Dots Miller guy. And look over there, that one's a dead ringer for a T206 Tommy Leach portrait.

I had forgotten Young ended up on the Boston National League team.

Here is an E98 of "Cy" Young who actually won 448 games less than the real, 'I was so good I had an award named after me' pitcher.

As an old time score keeping enthusiast, I like the fielding stats. Obviously the 1B has the most "outs" from ground outs. But also see the higher amount of outs for C, as they are credited an "out" on a strike out. Assists mainly from infielders from ground outs, and catchers from caught steeling (or successfully fielding a bunt attempt). Only one OF assist.
Also box score note: Wagner at 1B, which he did "occasionally." ............. enough babble .............. ![]() up62.jpg Fun, fun, Scott ![]() |

If anyone is capable and willing, I certainly would like to see Leon's fantastic E90-1 Cy Young with my Cy Neckhole sumperimposed over it. Or the non-neckhole portion of his Cy sumperimposed over Cy Neckhole.
