I actually have that logo on another plate type item. I will post a picture tomorrow. Mine is marked Shenango Pottery CO New Castle PA on the bottom. I do not believe it is a specific team but I would love to be proven wrong. I bought mine at Brimfield earlier this year.

Yeah, forget the plate, tell me where I can get that breakfast! I've seen pottery with that logo before, but don't know anything about it.

With the S I'm thinking it's college quick look turns up Stillman, and Salem university both of them use Tigers as the name.
I'm sure there are others, especially minor leagues. |

I wouldn’t rule out that it is just a generic design and the S could stand for shenango, the maker.

Mine is marked on the bottom "Beamish Glass Ware"....like this one in a February 25th and 26th, 2005 Hunt Auction...If I recall I bought this maybe about four years ago at an antiques mall in Petaluma Ca...and I think I posted it on here and someone said what team it was....but I can't find the post...I'm thinking of calling in the marines on this ...perezfan / Mark Steinberg....for a clear answer...

There's certainly not much info on this china, but it appears that 2 different makers used this same design for Pennant Cafe (which appears to be the common thread here).
The Pennant Cafe was located in the basement of the Sexton Hotel and the adjoining Dixon Hotel (the Kling-Allen Building) in Kansas City, Mo. Apparently the entire restaurant was decked out in Baseball-themed decor. It must have been a sight to behold. This Pennant Cafe China has been attributed to both Beamish Glass Ware and Shenango Pottery of New Castle, PA. The Shenango examples are thought to be circa 1910, according to an article I found. So perhaps Beamish was a secondary supplier, or both companies were contracted to produce this Baseball-themed china at different points in time. |

Found more great info on this...
The "Kling" from Kling-Allen Building was John Kling (former Catcher for the Chicago Cubs) who partnered with Benny Allen, to build the Hotel. See link below for more info and images... https://rwcn-idwiki-2.restaurantware...ntent_category Last edited by perezfan; 12-12-2022 at 08:14 PM. |

Below are some pertinent ads and articles about the Pennant Cafe, where this China was utilized. In the 4th article, it mentions that "Even the China, which is decorated with Baseball designs, is worth $3,500.00" (way back then!)

Happy to help...
It was fun finding info and origins of this obscure Baseball China. Usually I hit a dead end on these things, so was pleased and surprised to find an answer! |

Carlton, I would still like to know who made that delicious-looking breakfast, and what is the idea behind putting these collectible plates in service to eat it on? I love functional collectibles of all kinds, but would have thought these well beyond the point (and value!) of the use for which they were intended.

Thank you Mark for all of your research! I had no idea about the history behind these plates and I never expected it to be so interesting.
