Removing glue from 1956 Topps FB

I inherited 65 -1956 Topps Football cards
Unfortunately all of them were glued to an album or something.
They all have paper and glue attached to the back.
Has anyone ever had success trying to remove the paper . Can this be done safely without destroying the cards.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Q-tip and water and slowly dab it on a gently rub it off. Glue back then is very water soluble.

+1. I do the same thing but I suggest warm, distilled water. And rub very, very gently. Take your time. Let the water soak into the glue a little bit.

Make sure the first few tries are the least valuable cards, and above all BE PATIENT! I have a couple ruined Mantles because I wasn't patient.

I got this card from it's original owner's grandson in the big (for me) Trucker Boy find from many years ago. It had a dime sized glue remnant stuck in the middle of the back. I used the aforementioned method on it. There are still a few specs of the glue left, which I didn't care about.
'This is the 2nd time I have owned the card.

Try the worst/cheapest first, as outlined above.

If it's Elmers glue, chances are very high it won't come off without a fight and probably take some paper with it. If it's paste it will come off pretty easy. If the first one does not cooperate, accept as they are and enjoy.

Pretty cool you got the actual card you once owned back again.

The backs of these look like someone may have already tried and failed to remove the glue by soaking. This is what it looks like if the glue won't come off but most of the paper will. Otherwise, there'd usually be more paper on them if they hadn't already been soaked.

Thanks for the tips on getting the glue and paper off the backs of my 1956 Topps Football cards. I started with a few cards and am very pleased with the outcome.
The warm water and q-tip worked really well.Thanks again. Here are a few pictures of the ones that I cleaned.

Went through something similar with some 1948 Leafs a while ago. Mine had glue and scrapbook paper over large portions of the back, so I went with a full soak.

Just to give you a heads up on the way I dried them out in case you need to as well: I put down a big auction catalog, sandwiched the cards with a couple pieces of printer paper on each side, and then added like 3 more old REA catalogs on top. You need to check them every couple hours early on and change the paper out, and also be careful that any remaining tackiness on the back doesn't cause problems when changing out the paper. This method worked well for me, but your mileage may vary of course. And def try it out on cheaper cards first!
