I had a message on FB today that Julie Vognar passed away April 25, 2022. She was a member here for a lot of years and always had interesting posts and views on cards and life in general. I always enjoyed our conversations. RIP Julie and condolences to family and friends.
This was the message posted.. Hello this is Martha Vognar, Julie Vognar's daughter. I am sorry to be the bearer of sad news. Julie Vognar passed away on Monday, April 25th. She was in a comfy bed and had her needs tended to. I am sure she is in a better place. .

She was one of only two women to establish herself here, I believe, the other being JoAnn Klein? who was a regular for a while.

Julie was the best. I found her online several years after she left the forum, as I had just come across a book written by her father. I think we may have briefly discussed cards, but what I remember were her stories about her father working on the book when she was a child. He interviewed all these Germans after the war, and she said they were very open about discussing it with him because they never suspected he was Jewish.

I'll never forget her, and was thinking of her just a week or so ago. She seemed to always bring an interesting or fresh take to things, and was knowledgeable on a wide range of subjects. I bought my first E254 Colgans from her, sight unseen-- she said they were in pretty nice shape (as I recall she was not a fan of slabs). I still have them, and since every thread needs a card:

Julie was a lady with deep knowledge in a variety of differing areas. My recollection is that she'd politely post something, and if you talked with her about something she'd always have deeper, more thorough thoughts. She added civility to the board. A nice lady.

Wow that is a name that I haven’t seen for quite a few years. Julie was one of the originals of Net54. I always found her to be very pleasant and her spirit will be missed! Tough to hear this news.

Very sad news. A very unique individual with wide ranging interests from sports history to Asian art. Among a very small percentage of female collectors and among an even smaller percentage of collectors who, although not wealthy, once sold a significant part of her collection to donate to African Famine Relief. I was fortunate to have met and become friends with Julie and her late husband Bob and enjoyed every visit over several decades. I'm sure that she is already hard at work in her new venue making sure that all of the wings are in perfect shape, no strings are missing from the harps, and that the pearly gates are allowing equal access. Rest in Peace.

Been away for the past week or so and just now seeing this post. Thanks for letting us know, Leon.
Julie was very passionate about her cards and one of the first people that I traded vintage cards with when finding the predecessor to this forum. Happy to say that I still have a couple of her cards from our transactions many years ago. RIP Julie. |
