Hello everyone,
I've had a less than unique goal of trying to get a card from the playing years of each member of the first HOF class. The one caveat is that I've been trying to get each card for less than $200. I've been successful with everyone except Wagner. I don't have a ton of prerequisites other than price, and condition is obviously not of great importance to me. It's just important to me that Wagner is somewhere on the card and that it's from his playing years. Going through eBay, previously sold cards, and even a thread on this forum from a couple of years ago, it seems that finding a game card from 1913/1914 (national game, etc) or Colgan's chips in poor condition is probably my best bet. Does anyone have any other recommendations about a card that I may have missed to keep an eye out for? Thanks in advance everyone. |

I think a low grade game card is your best bet. You might be able to find a collector conditioned (most of it is there) candy card for that. But it will have to be a really lower grade one. As mentioned a very low grade Colgans could fit the bill also. Goof luck in the quest. The search is a lot of the fun.

I would think if you looked for a really beat up National Chicle you might have a shot along with the game card option?

I think the game cards are definitely going to be the best chance. You might be able to get lucky with something like a raw, missing pieces M101-2 or an M113 (stretching the definition of card a little).

Playing days will be tough but I have always liked the National Chicle card. It's from his coaching years but the image is great and he is in full uniform:

It's a fun restriction to try to meet. I have a T202 of Mathewson, a T202 and B18 blanket of Johnson, a Sanella Ruth that I bought as part of the whole set/book, and a Tom Barker game Cobb. I'll try to get some photos up later. The T202s are in pretty bad condition.

Game cards for sure although there are some lower grade caramel cards that don't seem crazy.
Pic is from my PC and not for sale! Good luck!! |

Do team cards count? Maybe a beat up orange border pirates team card or t200 Fatima team card?

The National Game cards are pretty nice looking. They're cheap because they were sold in decks as playing cards and have rounded corners so are easy to find high grade.

Hello again, everyone. I'm still trying to find my sub-$200 Wagner and was hoping for some insight.
I found this very discolored red Fatima team card on eBay that ends tomorrow. The red color is concerning and I don't feel great about how it looks, but If it's original, I don't really care. Everything about this card screams that it is a reprint, but I wanted to know if anyone has any insight that I don't have. I reached out to the seller who stated that it has always been red. https://www.ebay.com/itm/23444585557...fae2%7Ciid%3A1 Thanks in advance. Mike |

If coaching counts, you can probably pick up one of these R312s within your budget. Especially if it has a hole in it like mine.

Thanks for the suggestion, it's a great looking card. I have a 1936 National Chicle and 1948 Leaf as placeholders, but am really looking for a playing days card. I will continue the search. Thanks again!
