Let’s do a complement to the other thread.
What are the most underrated baseball cards/players? I wonder how many items will appear on both... My first thought is 51B Mantle. Last edited by eliotdeutsch; 11-25-2018 at 05:46 AM. |

Maybe the demand will just never be there, but given his significance and the very low supply relative to the cards we normally buy, Sadaharu Oh cards especially rookies.

I still don't understand why you can pick up 39-46 Exhibits of guys like DiMaggio and Ted Williams for less than $100.

The 4 on 1 Exhibits are relatively cheap too, although not that cheap. Some great cards there IMO.

Supply doesn't matter as much as demand, says the esoteric type card collector, from experience. Personally I still think Mick's '51 Bowman is undervalued relative to the common '52, which isn't his rookie.

Agree, and think all exhibits are probably undervalued in general. Especially big stars and hof rookie cards.

Ted Williams and Willie Mays cards seem undervalued to me. Especially their rookies and Ted's 54 Bowman. T3 Turkey Reds seem undervalued to me. Beautiful cards, scarce, but compare the Cobb to a t206 Cobb Green. The big names should sell for more. The big question is whether undervalued cards or overvalued cards see a price correction? I doubt it. It seems that overvalued cards often create more demand and undervalued cards get left behind. |

Maybe Pete Rose. Non-HOF status seems to have hurt him badly whereas it probably helped Shoeless Joe.

Undervalued...Eddie Collins and John McGraw (as managaer).
Collins just doesn’t garner the value he deserves when he is one of the best 2nd basemen to ever play the game (Behind Roger Hornsby). Collins typically sells for the same as any other HOFer (is Travis Jackson or Ted Lyons money) McGraw was perhaps the most important person in baseball from 1900 to the 1930’s but his stuff sells for “common HOF” values. He was a bit of a jerk though. Honorable mention (Frank Robinson)

Comparing it to the T206 cards, I'm surprised Ty Cobb's T205 hasn't gotten more traction. It's rarer than any Cobb T206 according to PSA's pop reports and while I will certainly concede the T206 set is more collected, T205 is heavily desired, too.

T3’s come to mind as most undervalued. With scarcity and the different backs they are far rarer and much nicer than most t cards.

I think Walter Johnson, Ted Williams, and Willie Mays cards are undervalued. Walter Johnson is arguably the greatest pitcher ever, but other than his Ramly card, most of his other cards don't have a premium to reflect this. In the same vein, Ted Williams is on the list for greatest pure hitter ever, and Willie Mays the best for both hitting and fielding. Yet both are seriously overshadowed by Mantle in terms of card values.
