I'm wondering if it's Turkey Reds--has been building and many have long wondered why has never happened before. Although it may just be the 4s and 5s. Of course, the answer might be-- CJ 15s...

Maybe T205s? IMO one of the most aesthetically pleasing sets in our hobby.

this set has it ALL
mainstream set not too big not too small huge star power rarities throughout association with all American brand of cj condition impossible (weeds out "condition snobs" - lol) what more can you ask for? but back to the topic - next set to take off? some other sort of similar characteritics candy "E" set imo. |

I'd go with Leon's pick and say T205's-- alongside the 1915 CJ's.
Though I love the D304s. |

Leon, haven't the t205s been picked to take off...for years? I agree with you but not trending that way at all. I feel same way about m116s but they are going nowhere....and, of course, OJs continue to decline...

![]() Yeah! I still laugh over this '86 Sandberg that brought $2,426. And yes, that is in US dollars. http://smalltraditions.com/1986-topp...r-lot2473.aspx On a serious note, I think that the E90-1/2/3 sets might be next to take off. Last edited by 4815162342; 08-28-2014 at 11:18 AM. |

Relative to other things I have always thought they (T205) were undervalued and still are, though I do agree they have been trending up a little. I guess I base my thinking on T206 but that isn't a fair comparison in hindsight, it is an extraordinary one.

The 1914 CJ set is very odd in many respects. I don't know how the set is regarded by a typical pre war collector, or by any of longtime collectors on the board.
I know everyone likes how they look, but it's not like other sets. I mean, it's hard to be picky about condition because cardboard is so thin. Stains on nearly every card. Not a lot of cards available to begin with, despite eBay and the internet making most all cards from most all sets plentiful, or at least available. Is the 1914 set viewed as sort of a cult-like following thing, but just not a "mainstream" set because of all the obstacles? I'd love to know what longtime collectors think... |

The e90 sets were my guess also, but admittedly, would have never guessed the '14 Cracker Jacks would increase so quickly. So my opinion may not matter.

On a serious note, I'd love to see T205s get some more respect. They're absolutely gorgeous, they've got a great selection of HOFers and variations, rare backs, print freaks, tougher minor leaguers, and can be collected in all different ways. REALLY undervalued and underappreciated set.
I was looking through a pile of T205s with Piedmont 42 backs recently with another collector, and marveling at how scarce they were - and how few people are aware of that. The Cobb is, in my opinion, one of the most attractive prewar cards. -Al |

Best laugh I've had all day. I've been thinking about this question a lot lately the m116 is a nice set but there just doesnt seem to be that much interest in it. How about the E90-1's. Good selection of stars, Joe Jackson rookie, set isnt too big, a relatively early set, some decent variations, the Mitchell scarce card, enough of the cards around to complete the set but few enough to make it a challenge.

There was an amazing M116 selection on Memory Lane last weekend which provided a good test on whether they will ever gain. The HOFers did well but the commons died--and most of them were PSA 8s and most with "none higher." As usual with M116s, half were gorgeous color and half were ugly. But you could get an 8 with low pop and none higher for about 250--and they sold for at least 50 more recently. So if anything, going down...

I've posted these before, but I feel like it may be time to remind everyone why T205s are often downright hideous:
The players look ugly... ![]() They are often making sour faces... ![]() They look like catfish, or at least like they're burping... ![]() There's just something garishly plastic about them... ![]() Check out the ears on these guys... ![]() Check out the huge foreheads on these dudes... ![]() The Joker? ![]() Egan's just horsey in ANY set... ![]() However, I will concede that I do so love this Blackburne, and not entirely because he signed it: ![]()

Johnson, Young and Matty look fine. Cobb looks like his cheeks and chin are swollen and his eyes are too close together ...also his ears stick out.
I know a lot of folks seem to like the T205 Cobb, but it's not a very attractive image of the man's face. So many better choices out there.

Less artistic liberties were taken with the portraits in T206 than T205. And Tinker looks WAY cooler than Ace Ventura. More like THE WOLVERINE!!!

Thought about this for a while.... I am partial to t205s but I don't think it will be them. The stars just aren't that attractive, the cobb and johnson and young are 3 of the worst cards in the set, the pictures are too small and the quality of the cobb and young are off. This coming from a t205 fanboy. It won't be the 06's either, set is too big and already has press so it would've happened by now. My verdict? 1932 us caramel. Blazing color, amazing player selection, low numbers, smallish set.

Yeah, U.S. Caramel a good pick. I would also mention similarly tough and with tons of stars--and better looking--the George C. Millers. I think they are climbing already. Maybe not enough of them to draw wide action.

I'm coming around on cobb but if you compare the 06 and 05 portraits of cobb, Johnson and young, to me it's a no brainer. Whereas Mathewson, Marquard, bresnahan and other hofers the 05s compare much better, but yes beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Peter those cards are amazing, particularly love grove.
