Comes with an unsigned 8x10 photo of Whiteman in Yankees uniform for display. Whiteman refers to his final major league game which to this day remains one of the mysteries of baseball lore , Whiteman writes "Yes, Your dad was right , it was quite a blow after starring in the 1918 Series , One of the breaks of the game" This is a reference to Whiteman's almost single handedly helping the Boston Red Sox capture the 1918 World Championship , he delivered key hits and outstanding defensive plays throughout, especially in the 8th and final game won by Boston 2-1. It would be the LAST major league game Whiteman would ever play in. Extremely RARE autograph in any form , he played for Boston Americans in 1907, Yankees in 1913 and Boston Red Sox in 1918. He died in 1947. $1,650.00 101) HERB PENNOCK Vintage circa 1932 portion of a "Waterman's album Page" measures 3 1/2 x 5. Best remembered however as a member of the fabled 1927 Yankees. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1948 and died in 1948. $350.00 102) MYLES THOMAS cut signature from what appears to be a letter attached to a 3x5 index card. Originates from the Bob Duvall collection. Has signed and also written "So many years , very sincerely MYLES THOMAS" , Comes with an unsigned 8x10 photo in Yankees uniform for display. Generally considered to be one of the FIVE toughest autographs from the fabled 1927 Yankees team. Thomas pitched for the 1926-1929 Yankees and 1929-30 Washington teams. Original collector placed tape over a portion of the signature which has toned it lightly. although the signature remains very ledgible. Thomas died in 1963. $650.00 103) FRANK GILHOOLEY Signed portion of the return address portion of an envelope , signed and has also written his address. Attached to a 3x5 index card and originates from the Bob Duvall collection. Comes with an unsigned photo of Gilhooley in Yankees uniform for display. Extremely Tough autograph ! He is best remembered as the FIRST player in the history of the major leagues to turn an unassisted triple play in 1909. He died in 1957. $175.00 105) EDD ROUSH SINGLE SIGNED BASEBALL AND PERSONAL HANDWRITTEN NOTE TO ROUSH FROM JOE DiMAGGIO, ONE OF THE LAST BASEBALLS AUTOGRAPHED BY EDD ROUSH Offered here are a pair of signed items truly unique in nature and association. One is an official National League Bart Giamatti baseball autographed on the sweet spot in fine tip blue sharpie and is accompanied by a "get well" handwritten note TO ROUSH written and signed by JOE DiMAGGIO. Truly amazing story of how these items were acquired. In 1987 a young lady wrote to Hall of Famer Edd Roush (additional information regarding name etc will be provided to buyer) and sent this Official Bart Giamatti National League Baseball. The "window" in which Edd Roush could have signed this type of ball is small as it was only manufactured between 1986-89, with Roush dying early in 1988. She included a return address box and information about her autograph collection. Not knowing that Roush had been in fading health. When she recieved the baseball back signed by Roush he included a handwritten note clipped from a letter that had been written to him personally and signed by Joe DiMaggio to add to her collection. The note measures nearly 2x8 and reads as follows "EDD, Glad to hear your on the mend and of course my very best wishes go out to you and that the sun will always shine, JOE DiMAGGIO" The note is written and signed in blue fine tip sharpie. The signature of Roush on the sweet spot is in an extremely labored hand but VERY bold and the baseball itself exhibits very light shading and toning. Single signed Edd Roush baseballs are uncommonly scarce as he died early in 1988 prior to the advent of card show appearances. Plagued by health problems the last several years of his life , he was an avid signer through the mail but these were mostly flats and 3x5's. In this gesture of generosity Roush not only returns the baseball to the young collector signed but includes a signed portion of DiMaggio's handwritten letter to him. On March 21st 1988 Edd Roush died shortly after attending a spring training game in Bradenton Florida and by my own and the original collectors calculations less than 6 months after this baseball had been signed. Roush won the batting title in 1917 & 1919 and is best remembered as a member of the World Champion 1919 Reds and was the batting hero of the ill fated 1919 World Series. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962. True DiMaggio handwritten items of any kind are far rarer than one would think especially written to a fellow Hall of Famer. The Yankees superstar won the Most Valuable Player Award in 1939, 1941 & 1947 and was a 13 time all star. Best remembered for his record setting 56 game hitting streak. He was inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame in 1955 and died in 1999. One of the most unique pairings I have ever offered. Take Both for $450.00 106) CHARLES "PADDY" BAUMANN 3X5 index card signed on the lined side. Comes with an unsigned 8x10 photo of Baumann pictured in Yankees uniform for display. Won pitching's Triple Crown in 1918 he is best remembered for the May 2nd 1917 double no-hitter at Wrigley field in which he dueled with Fred Toney over 9 innings with neither pitcher allowing a hit. Vaughn would eventually lose in the 10th. Pitched for the 1908, 1910-12 Yankees, 1912 Washington, 1913-21 Cubs. He died in 1966. $150.00 108) MICKEY MANTLE AUTOGRAPHED 1980'S ATLANTIC CITY PROMOTIONAL PHOTO Color photo measures 5x7 and Mantle has signed "Best Wishes Mickey Mantle" has studio stamp on the reverse.
