I feel terribly guilty not telling everyone here that-- strictly when it comes to future values-- we are all fools to be looking anywhere but 1981 Topps Wax Boxes.
Just felt bad to see so many people missing the boat. To be clear, I am NOT making a reference to collecting what one likes for sheer enjoyment and passion (I enjoy nostalgic pack owning and occasional opening as much as the next guy). Strictly with respect to uncontrollable tsunami prices, the wise move is to sell off everything and load up on 1986 Topps Wax! Thank me after you make your first million on this can't-lose proposition. Trust me, the underpinning logic to this surefire jackpot is rock solid. Last edited by MattyC; 10-01-2013 at 01:37 PM. |

Thank you so much. I am taking all of my money out of the 8-track tape player business and putting it into 1980s wax as you suggest. When Mickey Tettleton gets into the Hall of Fame, I will have it made.

As an exercise, could one man hoard, say, 1986 Sportflics...
Then rip all but one box on YouTube... Then use the prevailing logic out there to sell said box for one million dollars? |

Just as no one wants 1986 Sportflics now (while it's plentiful), no one will want 1986 Sportflics when it's rare.

I'll liquidate some of my Iraqi dinars and invest in wax boxes. I've been looking to diversify my portfolio.

Anyone who thinks a 1981T wax box is junk please sell it to me at a junk price. I will buy it all day long.
You can keep the 86T wax and Sportflics however. |

For the record, I don't think 81T is junk wax-- that said, I don't see a rational basis for it ever reaching the pricing mesosphere, either. It has some nice cards in it, but lacks the power punch of say 75 with all those HOF RCs.

I still think Tim Raines is a very deserving HOFer...well, in context with the guys who are already in there anyway.

i'm unfamiliar with cards from the 80's.
do the backs tend to be skinned? do collectors often choose to restore them? Is their lithography similar to the E98s or more like strip cards such as W515-1? Or are they more like photographs such as E126? ![]() Finally, are they housed in tins like the Fatima beauties or in pouches like the Polar Bear backed T206s. ![]() Please forgive so many questions. all the best, barry which emoticon is for tongue in cheek? |

The car is a passing fancy says the owner of the buggy whip factory. 1981 Topps will explode in the next 5 years, says the owner of 100 cases.

every era has its pros and cons. i absolutely love cards from 80's. they were the wheelhouse of my childhood collecting and they are dirt cheap...the best of both worlds if you ask me.

This reminds me of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory where Sotheby's auctions the last box of Wonka bars in England, with the Queen phoning in a bid. Additionally, a wife of a kidnapped husband is seriously debating whether the ransom is too high when he asks for her box of Wonka bars.
