Gary Carter just passed away.
I knew the reports within the last few weeks were bad but still a shock. He will always be remembered by all Mets fans as the final piece to the 1986 Mets.

This is a very sad day indeed!
Gary Carter is one of the most famous baseball athletes to hail from Orange County, CA where I grew up. He was a graduate of Fullerton, CA's Sunny Hills High School. He sure had a terrific career. How sad that he passed away so young (57)... ![]() |

Yes, way too young and he was a great player. I remember pulling his cards from packs as a kid and you'd typically see two things on his cards: his poofy, curly hair and a wide smile. It was obvious he enjoyed the game.

Gary Carter was a great player and a really nice man. I had the chance to talk with him at a show about a month before he found out he had brain tumors. We talked for 5 minutes about baseball in general and the 86 championship. He was very humble and an all-around nice person to talk to. He will be missed.

One of our members posted this on the other side but it's so good I want to post it here too. This is really what the game is all about and why, I think, we love it so much. RIP Gary.

My son works for ESPN and one of the things he does there is write for the ESPN Mets blog.
He wrote this story about Gary Carter back in May, when the cancer diagnosis story was revealed. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/met...a-kid-at-heart

Great article, Richard. I'm sure you're a proud father.
How young was Mark when the Mets traded for Carter? Either way, his memory of the moment certainly made an impact on him. Maybe your enthusiasm in the matter helped. I loved reading about it. Graig

Greg, Thanks for your kind words.
Mark was nine years old at the time the Mets got Carter and yes I am a proud father. He became a sports fan of course due to my influence and now he works at the ultimate place to work for any sports fan. He also has a regular podcast during the baseball season.

I have fond memories of Watching Gary Carter as a kid with the Montreal Expos and i remember us Expos fans being very happy when he won the World Series with the Mets. Died way too young.
I guess he was a card collector at one time as well..... http://www.tboblogs.com/index.php/sp...rd-collectors/ |
