A confluence of events orchestrated by Jacob Ruppert an Ban Johnson (AL Prez.) brought Miller Huggins to New York in the Fall of 1917.
Initially, New Yorkers (and the Press) were very unhappy with Huggins replacing their very popular Mgr. Wild Bill Donovan. By 1921-1923, Huggins won over the favor of the NY fans with consecutive Championships. Huggins was more than just the Yankees Mgr, he served as the team's scout. When the opportunity arose, he wasted no time in persuading Jake Ruppert & Til Houston to acquire Babe Ruth (whose career Huggins had closely followed while Ruth was with Boston). The rest is history. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Share with us your Miller Huggins cards....especially, his seldom seen cards (and other neat items of him). Hopefully, this should help the Yankees fans on this forum think of better times; and, forget the loss of last night's game ![]() TED Z Last edited by tedzan; 10-12-2011 at 02:56 PM. |
