Oct 1917....Miller Huggins signs as Yankees Mgr....let's see cards or related items
A confluence of events orchestrated by Jacob Ruppert an Ban Johnson (AL Prez.) brought Miller Huggins to New York in the Fall of 1917.
Initially, New Yorkers (and the Press) were very unhappy with Huggins replacing their very popular Mgr. Wild Bill Donovan. By 1921-1923, Huggins won over the favor of the NY fans with consecutive Championships. Huggins was more than just the Yankees Mgr, he served as the team's scout. When the opportunity arose, he wasted no time in persuading Jake Ruppert & Til Houston to acquire Babe Ruth (whose career Huggins had closely followed while Ruth was with Boston). The rest is history. <img src="http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt113/zanted86/millerhugginscycpiesovsca.jpg" alt="[linked image]"><img src="http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt113/zanted86/ab350hugginsportlt.jpg" alt="[linked image]"> <img src="http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt113/zanted86/millerhugginscycpiesovscb.jpg" alt="[linked image]"><img src="http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt113/zanted86/ab350hugginsportbk.jpg" alt="[linked image]"> <img src="http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt113/zanted86/1910couponhuggins.jpg" alt="[linked image]"><img src="http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt113/zanted86/1910couponhugginsb.jpg" alt="[linked image]"> Share with us your Miller Huggins cards....especially, his seldom seen cards (and other neat items of him). Hopefully, this should help the Yankees fans on this forum think of better times; and, forget the loss of last night's game :) TED Z |

Jeez, Ted, that type 1 Coupon! What is the highest graded type 1 that PSA has ever graded? That's a nice one.

I believe this to be the earliest known professional baseball image of Huggins, 1904 St. Paul W601 (third row down from the top, second from left)..........

Rogers Hornsby attributed his early development in the Majors to Miller Huggins guidance when
Huggins was his Mgr. with the St Louis Cardinals (1915-1917). <img src="http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt113/zanted86/1933ghornsby.jpg" alt="[linked image]"> TED Z |

Hi! Not a card, but I have what is probably Miller Huggins first collectible. It is his college yearbook while at the University of Cincinnati. Here is a photo. I would sell if anyone is interested.
Thanks, Andy Sandler alwysyakn@aol.com |
Here's a T202 I have. I got it because my great granddad is "putting up a high one" in the center panel, but Huggins is on one of the side panels.

Really cool.....Billy Sullivan.....your great-Grandfather. Your Grandfather, Billy Sullivan Jr.,
was also a Major League catcher. Ty Cobb once described Billy Sullivan...."as the best catcher ever to wear shoe leather." Check-out this SABR biography........ http://bioproj.sabr.org/bioproj.cfm?...13805&bid=1800 <img src="http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt113/zanted86/t206billysullivan.jpg" alt="[linked image]"> TED Z |

Issue #20 of Old Cardboard magazine features Huggins on the cover, derived from a postcard of him in the 1907 PC778 Morgan Stationery set. Huggins is the only player identified by name in the set.
