I bought this several years ago and I just came across it while going through some storage. Anyway, I remember the seller stating that the fellow batting was the Babe. So what can you guys tell me about it as well as the value.
Thanks Guys. My best, Jimmy 020.jpg 021.jpg 024.jpg |

Relatively common postcard. I've never heard anyone claim the batter was Ruth though. Usually sells for around $50-$100 depending on condition.

Always claimed to be Babe, never proven and very common.

Compared to the catcher who is crouching the batter looks a little short to be the Babe.

Obviously going to be almost impossible to definitively identify the batter as Ruth but it certainly looks like his stance, if not his stature.

In 1916, Babe had a very athletic physique, and had not yet acquired his big belly. The batter doesn't look like a 20 year old Babe to me. Max

If I recall correctly Ruth was around 6' tall. I was referring to his height not his later in life potbelly, which I can relate to personally but that is another story.

I think a few years back someone found this postcard with a postmark that predated Ruth in Boston and positively confirmed it was NOT Ruth. I remember one selling in a Goodwin Auction as Ruth for $1000 too but that was before the earlier postmark was discovered!

There are a few versions of this classic pc. Great image of early Fenway. Im guessing opening day, 1912 because of the billboards along the fbl.
For a sweet shot, after the field was shrunk and temporary stands were added to snag more $$ for the 1912 World Series. Note the same billboards. http://tinyurl.com/35rlttm |
