Why is the T200 New York AL so tough

compared to other T200's? And is this the only card depicting pitcher George McConnell? These are but a few questions rambling in my mind, can anyone help me please.

my guess is because the team stunk, as did the Boston Nationals team.

fewer were produced, and even fewer were kept.

make the most sense because production numbers were probably the same but you can just see someone back then lighting their cigarette and torching the card saying these guys "suck"

I think it is no tougher than the other cards like Boston NL, St Louis AL, St Louis NL but the popularity of the Yankees makes it a very tough card.
Phil AL, Pitt, Cleve, Detroit, Cinn, Phil NL, Brooklyn, Bos AL, New York NL, Chi NL and Chi AL all appear much easier than the other 4 so I guess distribution or short printing might have played some part.

I always felt that it was related to the teams popularity. The scarcity of the cards is pretty closely inversely related to how the teams finished the previous year.

Jim, George is featured on several cards other than the T200--none of which are all that easy to come by though, so it might take you a while to find one. Here is the list I have...

Boston NL is by far the toughest card in the set, but NY AL is on the next tier (along with St Louis AL and NL)

The Boston NL was the final card in my set. Have seen 3 NY AL in the last year on ebay or at auction and was lucky enough to find a Boston NL at the National... first I have seen in a long while.

Boston NLs is definitely this set's toughest card.

Followed by NY American and then a small step to the two St. Louis teams.


The rest of them are readily available.

Always felt the same "suck" reason for E90-1 Bos. Nat. cards.

A combination of these:

Fatima Cigarettes weren't as popular in New York in 1913.

Fewer fans for the team, relative to other teams, in 1913.

There are fewer T200s of the New York Americans, than some other teams.

Current demand for anything "Yankee" is disproportionate to that of other teams.

Not that they come up often (or at all), but does anyone know if the distribution of the T200 premiums is also skewed? The pop sample may not be big enough, but I think that I've only seen NY(N) more than once.

In my scant 13-14 yrs of (addicted) collecting I have only seen 4-5 Large Fatimas. I doubt the population is big enough to have a good analysis. They are all extremely rare.

I've seen the Chi NL, Brooklyn and Cincinnati large Fatima premiums but never any of the scarce ones from the set.

There was one up recently as well in a major auction (Philadelphia). If I recall correctly, it had extensive damage and didn't receive minimum bid.

I have the Boston National from this set and with my T206 Boston National Super Set quest slowing to a crawl I am giving serious consideration to completing this set.

If anyone is interested would you rank the difficulty of the 16 cards in the set.

And given the fragile nature of these cards what would be a realistic grade range if you were looking to put together a mid to high end set?

It doesn't sound to me as if collecting a set of premiums is possible...let alone in high grade?

I think it would certainly be an undertaking.

This question was relative to the set. For example a high grade T200 set could be an average SGC 40 and a mid could be SGC 20.

I don't have access to population reports so I really don't know.
