Hi All, I am a noobie but offer a valid question. I am selling a 1914 joe jackson card that has holes and small tears, etc. I found the card so have nothing invested. should I keep the card and have it professionally restored or just sell it as is? kevin |

restoration is a 'no-no' in the hobby. |

Don't ask for a number grade, ask them to grade the card authentic. |

Wouldn't he have to pay a fee to join PSA? And only for one card? Better to go the SGC route unless he can find a PSA member to do it for him, going on the assumption he's not a member already. |

Yes, it did fall out of the ceiling, and no I am not a member of psa. I pulled it off Ebay. I am going to send it in to be graded which I'm sure will be a 1 or poor. That is not a real concern now. I have the card and know a little about cards. I own a decent collection still. I need verification that it's the real McCoy, which I am 90% sure it is. This card was found between a lathe and plaster ceiling and the floor boards of a 100+ year old house. I have owned the house over 20 yrs. and my mother before that. The only conclusion I can make is some kid had to have dropped it through the crack in the floor board years ago. If it was a fake, it would have to be over 50 yrs old, just for starters. It is very brittle and has the aging color of paper that old. I have collected antiques,(very little paper goods though) for over 30 yrs. From what can find, a poor cond. grade 1 card, graded, is somewhere around the $5000 mark. Any clue? |

Even if it is a legit card, it may not grade at all. |

I hope you don't think you are going to get $5,000 dollars for it?? I was at a local auction last year that wa mainly for sports cards and memorabilia. A one time only type of deal. Any way, there was a 1914 Cracker Jack Joe Jackosn there that a woman brought in to sell because she read about the auction in hte newspaper classifieds. Because she brought it in late, the auctioneers didn't have time to send it out and get it graded. |

I don't know how much it will fetch. mMy main concern is to authenticate it before the sale to eliminate doubt. I had concidered that I may have to do some calling around to find who would actually slab it seeing it was real. Beckett was suggested several times. |

On this card I would not use Beckett. Of course SGC would be my choice and PSA would be ok too, for resale. I would get SGC to put it in an AUT holder and go with it, if it were me....and yes, I think 5k is a bit much for it given the condition. Just my opinion and good luck with it... |
