Posted By: Joe D.
restoration is a 'no-no' in the hobby.

leave it as is.

Have it graded by PSA or SGC if you plan on selling it.

There's no good reason I can think of to request an "authentic" grade.

And if you're unsure about the grading of cards and want more info, here are two Web sites of grading companies that might help:

Sportscard Guaranty

Professional Sports Authenticator

Joe Jackson 1914 Cracker Jacks card
Posted By: kevin
Yes, it did fall out of the ceiling, and no I am not a member of psa. I pulled it off Ebay. I am going to send it in to be graded which I'm sure will be a 1 or poor. That is not a real concern now. I have the card and know a little about cards. I own a decent collection still. I need verification that it's the real McCoy, which I am 90% sure it is. This card was found between a lathe and plaster ceiling and the floor boards of a 100+ year old house. I have owned the house over 20 yrs. and my mother before that. The only conclusion I can make is some kid had to have dropped it through the crack in the floor board years ago. If it was a fake, it would have to be over 50 yrs old, just for starters. It is very brittle and has the aging color of paper that old. I have collected antiques,(very little paper goods though) for over 30 yrs. From what can find, a poor cond. grade 1 card, graded, is somewhere around the $5000 mark. Any clue?
http://s238.photobucket.com/albums/ff17/keroba/

Posted By: Joe D.
Even if it is a legit card, it may not grade at all.

With that chunk of card missing....
SGC might decide to not slab it due to "too much missing".

It has happened to me.

If not SGC - you can also try GAI.

If it is a legit card, I can't see it getting better than an "authentic" grade.

good luck.

Posted By: David Smith
I hope you don't think you are going to get $5,000 dollars for it?? I was at a local auction last year that wa mainly for sports cards and memorabilia. A one time only type of deal. Any way, there was a 1914 Cracker Jack Joe Jackosn there that a woman brought in to sell because she read about the auction in hte newspaper classifieds. Because she brought it in late, the auctioneers didn't have time to send it out and get it graded.

That card was complete with lightly dinged corners, minor wear around the edges and a horizontal surface crease three quarters of the way across the card which ran either across his chest or chin, I can not remember for sure now. That card sold for $5,500.

David

Posted By: kevin
I don't know how much it will fetch. mMy main concern is to authenticate it before the sale to eliminate doubt. I had concidered that I may have to do some calling around to find who would actually slab it seeing it was real. Beckett was suggested several times.

Posted By: leon
On this card I would not use Beckett. Of course SGC would be my choice and PSA would be ok too, for resale. I would get SGC to put it in an AUT holder and go with it, if it were me....and yes, I think 5k is a bit much for it given the condition. Just my opinion and good luck with it...
