Just started trying to put together T206 set going to start with 'commons ... is there a list for more difficult commons?
Are portraits always more money ? If a player has a portrait only and another has an action card only which player is perceived to have been a better ballplayer? Any tidbits will help .. bored of collecting 40s 50s 60s so here goes T206 I guess Cheers Bryan |

Hi Bryan - Leaving things like the SP rarities of Doyle/Magie/St. Louis Demmitt/O'Hara out, the Elberfeld WAS Port./Dahlen Brooklyn are at the top. Dahlen's more like a star but I'm talking non-HOFs here.
The six horizontals are all more than standard commons, with Pelty being the priciest. Durham, Titus, Tenney, Frank Smith CHI/BOS, Ames Hands at Chest, Adkins, Rhoades Arm Extended, and Puttman are well-known more expensive/tougher ones. Donlin Seated is often cited but PSA has actually graded significantly fewer of his fielding card. And of course all of the Southern Leaguers are mostly lightly-regarded players but not sold as commons. There's a slew of probably a couple dozen others that could be cited as a little tougher than normal. That list above isn't comprehensive and I could even be leaving a bigger one out. Here are some older threads: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=219324 http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...=156223&page=3

Can someone post a working link or post the checklist for the 200 scare commons that was previously found in Scot Reader's book? The Centennial edition of his book does not have the checklist.

Reported below are difficulty rankings for the 200 most difficult T206 subjects and all Hall of Fame subjects compiled based on weighted PSA Population Report population totals as of January 2006. Rather than taking raw population totals as a measure of a subject's difficulty, totals were weighted by grade and price prior to rank assignment. Totals were grade-weighted since a lower GPA in the PSA Population Report means that a subject is more difficult. Totals were price-weighted to account for the stronger economic incentives to submit higher priced subjects for grading due to, for example, costs associated with PSA submissions and market value increases achievable through such submissions. Price weightings are based on t206museum.com base prices with adjustments made by the author based on recent pricing trends. The difficulty rank is a numerical ranking that directly follows from weighted population totals (wherein "1" is assigned to the most difficult subject under this methodology). An overall ranking is provided to represent the subject's difficult ranking within the set as a whole, and a ranking within series is also provided. Subject Overall Cobb (Ty Cobb Back) 1 J. Thank you for the help, Paul. From your collecting experience, do you believe the ranking is still fairly accurate, in regards to general availability?

I think it's fair in most regards. For instance, I think these 10 are tougher than most:
Ewing Lindaman Lobert Knight (Portrait) Howard (Chicago) Bowerman Adkins Ames Hands at Chest Thielman Puttman However, I am often purchasing Knabes and Leifields to make custom "Signature Collection" cards, which pair those T206 cards with the player's authentic signature. I never have a problem finding one of these at a reasonable price. Leifield pitching has been much harder for me to find, and I think that's because it is one of the most beautiful cards in the set and people collect it. Knabe is not a great card aesthetically, and so maybe that's why is is easy to purchase.
