Hi all--
I am sure there has already been a thread on this, and also I think I know the right answer. I think you need to just talk me down. I recently purchased a card slabbed in a PSA 5 holder. It REALLLY looks nicer than a PSA 5, like a PSA 7 or 8. An increase in grade to PSA 6 would be worth the cost of grading for sure, to PSA 5.5 would still be worth it too, though much closer. I am definitely not taking it out of the holder (too much of a risk of it going down, even as nice as it looks, and I would probably mess things up). So it would go in, in the holder. The question is: should I get it re-graded? I imagine the answer is, "it depends on the situation, but probably not and especially not in the holder." But would be interested in anyone's experience with getting cards re-graded in this way. I'd rather not post the card for a variety of reasons (it's not SO valuable) given all the scammer talk lately, but if anyone is curious, please PM me and happy to share. Thanks for any advice! If the card is a secret, it's tough to evaluate the odds of a bump.

If you want to resubmit the card, I think you have to crack it. Think this through. Do you think a TPG is going to review its own slabbed card, and admit it originally made an egregious mistake? A card going from a 5 to a 7 is an egregious error. I’m not saying it never happens, but I do not like the odds.
The easiest thing is for the TPG to do is collect your money, look at the slab for five seconds, and affirm the original grade. I’m not saying you don’t have a chance, but, if I were you, I would crack the card and resubmit it raw. Good luck. |

If you are worried at all that there is something potentially wrong with the card that would mean it will grade lower than the holder it is already in, then don't crack it out and just leave it as is. If your card has exceptional eye appeal, you can note that if you ever have to sell it to try and get an amount at the top end of that grade. |

Does that mean if there is a scratch or something else on the case or if the card is being submitted because it was classified incorrectly, that PSA will always re-slab etc. with the same original grade? I have several cards I would like to get re-slabbed for such reasons, but I worry whether PSA might simply decide whether to re-grade. Also is there a reduced charge for re-slabbing ONLY. Thanks to all |

The identify of the card is not at all relevant, as someone suggested, unless you were asking us our opinion on if it would bump, which I do not think you did.
General advice is to resubmit raw. Getting a fair look at the card on a review or a crossover (i.e. card submitted in a holder) is unlikely. If you are concerned it might not regrade then leave it as is. If you ever go to sell, high grade examples always sell for a premium. I know I am not the only one to pay up for them.
