Chester "Red" Hoff (1891-1998) is best remembered for being the oldest living ex-major league player. At the time of his death in Daytona Beach, Florida, at the age of 107 he was the longest-lived person to have played in Major League Baseball.
Hoff's record was later surpassed by former Negro leagues pitcher Silas Simmons (1895-2006) who played from 1913-1929. Silas was 111 years old when he passed.
