Hey guys,
I was thinking today about what sets I would actively pursue if money was no object and thought it would be cool to see what others would choose. Not favorite players or team collections, but just what sets would you work on? For me, I came up with a few off the top of my head today. 1. n690 - Kalamazoo Bats - I like the size of the cards and the images, also there are plenty of cool horizontal and two player pose cards in this set. 2. m131 - Baltimore New Newsboys - Have always been drawn to these as they are basically the same set as e94 but all blue and more rare. 3. e98 - All four colors of each card 4. n175 - Gypsy Queens - Another set that I have always been drawn to but have never been able to chase. I'm sure there are many more, but I just thought of these four right away. So what would you work on and why?

I'd still work on the T206 Providence master set but I'd be able to chase the rare back combos.

1914 Cracker Jack combined with the high number and different variation cards that are in the 1915 set, all in something around Vg condition, which, as noted in another thread, is the best condition of all. My old cards should look somewhat used, even if money was no object for me.

Great replies so far. I thought of a few more that I would want to work on.
1. e285 - Rittenhouse Candy 2. 1929 Leader Novelty 3. 1910 Orange Borders I know these would be tough, but it would be a blast to watch these sets slowly grow over time. Remember, money is no object so don't limit yourself to just one set, especially if it is a tough set to complete. You can work on as many as you really want to with unlimited funds.

If money were no object, the Hindu-backs I’ve let go by I’d make a run at. Same with four of the five Cobbs I know are out there. That would leave about 30 Piedmont or Old Mill backs to get all of the 47 or so Howe-stamped cards I know are out there but not in my collection. Might even hire a detective to try and track down his Piedmont-backed Honus.

If money was entirely no object, being that I'm not picky at all....
I'd go for something VERY simple, like multiples of every set ever issued for every sport throughout the entire history of the world, all in stunning high grade - the best examples known and available, all displayed in a multi, multi-acre museum-quality setting. This would include living players posing by displays of their cards, complete stadiums purchased, dismantled and reassembled on-site, and the DNA of past legendary stars gathered - where possible, to clone a modern super athlete who would serve as both display demonstrator and customer service greeter. ....If this isn't possible, I'd probably just move on then, as it would allow for more productive things than baseball card collecting. |

Of course with money not being an issue, you could hypothetically collect everything, but where is the fun in just clicking Buy It Now on everything just to have it? The chase is where the fun is at. Having no money issues holding you back, you can go after the cards you're chasing when you find them, but if you're not looking for anything in particular, there is no adventure.
Keep the ideas coming guys, this has been more fun to follow than I thought it would be when the thread was started. ![]()

For the majority of these dream sets, all the money in the world won't complete them. Many well healed collectors have tried and still fell short....
There simply aren't enough of the cards available, especially now. E107 for example, when I started it circa 2000 and got close by 2008, I bought three collections of over 100 cards at a time along with dozens of small groups, acquiring over 500 cards total and still needed several. Now you will be lucky to find a few commons and HOFers here and there. No one has yet to complete it and the three closest have ample assets to pay up should the cards come up. Such is the case with many, many tough issues. |
