He is the oldest living member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, Bobby Doerr, celebrated his 92nd birthday with well wishes from his friends and fans in Junction City Saturday at Guaranty Chevrolet.
Dierr was inducted into the HOF by the Veterans Committee in 1986. Doerr (Boston) and Lou Whitaker (Detroit) are the only two men in MLB history to play only one position for one team their entire career for more than ten seasons. The nine-time All-Star, Doerr, played second base for the Boston Red Sox from 1937 to 1951.http://www.kval.com/sports/89856057.html Last edited by greenmonster66; 04-07-2010 at 11:35 AM. |
