As tonight begins the Jewish Holiday of Rosh HaShana (New Year) I thought this story about Hank Greenberg was appropriate and interesting:

And another quote (not in that article):
"Only one fellow blew the shofar yesterday so you could hear it. He was Hank Greenberg. He blew the shofar twice, and the ears of the Boston Red Sox are still ringing. Blast no. 1 from his shofar was a homer...Blast no. 2 from Hank's shofar was a home run... will you please take me home shofar?" Stuart Bell Cleveland Press For anyone interested, there is a wonderful chapter in "Baseball History from Outside the Lines: A Reader" which discusses how Greenberg dealt with his dilemma and how the press decided to report the struggle. It's a fantastic discussion of America, Religion and the press. Last edited by Matt; 09-18-2009 at 11:21 AM. |

Here lately I don't understand between 30% and 40% of the posts made on this board.

70% of those are inside net54 jokes where some may not make sense unless you've been here a while and the other 40% are a few people posting nonsense (see, that in and of itself was one of those jokes). From your perspective, the hard part is figuring out which is which.

Matt, If you had the proper hacker program you could discern the meaning behind the posts pretty quickly. I know it works wonders for me.

Jeff, FYI Moses Yellowhorse wasn't Jewish, he was Hawaiian. We're very proud of Bruddah Moses in the Islands.
Shana tovah, haverim!

Oh, that's where you're wrong, David. Moses's real name was Mort, which is a Jewish name. Not sure how you missed that one.
