Ganzel remained in the Boston area after his retirement from the Beaneaters in 1897. He remained very close to the game in various ways: playing for several local semipro teams, umpiring, and coaching the baseball team of my alma mater, Williams College. He guided the team to a couple of championships around the turn of the 20th Century. Somewhat oddly, he appears in two of the college team yearbook photos in two versions of his old Boston uniform.
Off the charts sweet Ganzel, that was the last pose I needed when collecting the 1887 Detroits. Great story . . . The Ganzel family is somewhat legendary in early Michigan baseball history with five brothers all playing some form of professional baseball. Charlie and John Ganzel being most prominent. Charlie's son Babe Ganzel would have some success as well.

Love it, congrats Kevin !
