Of course, prophets of doom who keep predicting doom are bound to be right sooner or later. Something about predicting 27 of the last 5 recessions.

But for my money, $6M+ could buy a lot more exciting stuff than some banana (with duct tape), even if it has been anointed as fine art by the cognoscenti.
I can assure you that upper middle class and rich not only stayed rich during the "pandemic era"...many got richer.

Williams Sonoma is having no problem with inventory, sales, or profit. Whatever money crunch much of the world is experiencing, it's not effecting their clientele.

The beginning of the pandemic shutdowns (early 2000) put a lot of stress on the investor class, but by late-summer/fall 2000 there was plenty of money to be made if you had excess investment income that wasn't trying to cover rent and groceries.
