The seller included in his description the line "There is however debate as to whether these examples were actually from George Ruth's Tavern or another George Ruth from that time frame, none-the-less a tremendous conversation piece".

To my way of thinking, that's as much of a "heads up" as a seller needs to give. It obviously was enough to stop you from buying the bottle, and myself also (after a bit more research), although even after said research I was still tempted due to the "conversation piece" aspect.

If this bottle can be had for $27.50 somewhere else, the buyer had plenty of warning to have attempted to find it. That's what google is for.
