Is "found A Better Price" grounds to cancel a sale / purchase?
I had an item on ebay auction in which someone bid on and won a few days later. The item was a 1977 Star Wars unopened wax Fun Bag pack. He won the auction with the only bid of $129.00. Two days later he wants me to cancel the sale because "He found a better Price" I see these packs on sale for $175.00 and up so I really do not think he found a better price.
To avoid any hassles that may arise......claiming I sent him an empty box or something, I am going to cancel the sale but what do you guys think? Should I cancel? Is this a legitimate reason? Thanks, Bob |
I would just cancel the sale and avoid any potential problems.

If this is how things are done today, glad I don’t use EBay anymore. Truly sad!

I wouldn't cancel, but let it sit there and time out so he gets a non-paying buyer strike against him (for whatever that's worth). That should happen in 4 days normally.
I would just say, "if you can't pay it will cancel itself after a few days". |
Actually, after 4 days a "non-payment" option will be there if you go to cancel the sale. It won't be there before then. I would wait for that.

On a related note, but as a buyer, I had a weird experience recently on eBay. I had a best offer accepted and was asked to pay -- but the prompt to "pay now" was accompanied by a message saying that someone else could take the item if they paid first. And that's exactly what ended up happening.
Never seen that before. |
If you accept returns on eBay, found a better price is a reason to return that eBay allows. Better to cancel now.
|
Found a better price is not a legitimate excuse to not pay, that’s for sure
|
Well then…..
If a buyer can back out for “found a better price” can a seller back out for “got a better offer” ? This whole thing seems very dishonorable to me but I’m kind of old fashioned about things like this. Personal integrity has no price and mine is not for sale!! Rocky

I guess it flies on eBay, but I doubt it would on the BST.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I will let it sit there until it expires and then select the non paying bidder. He needs to have at least a strike against him for something. Especially since I cannot leave a negative. Which by the way is totally wrong that you cannot leave a neg against a buyer. I always thought that a winning bid is a legal binding agreement. And he has 4 negs over a year old as a seller of plants / seedlings with a total of 33 feedbacks. I did block him now. Thanks everyone, Bob |
