eBay Searching

Would any of you find political advertising troubling when searching for baseball scrapbooks? Take a look through the eBay search above.

I’m kinda numb to it at this point. I’ll just be happy when it’s over. I would imagine when these two current candidates were set in stone there was probably a grand total of 7 undecided voters. Those 7 should be proud they’ve had $250 million each spent to sway them.

I don't care about it one way or the other. I'm trying to just stay out of it at this point. I just don't expect to see it when searching baseball scrapbooks.

If you search "baseball scrapbook -hat" the count drops from 4500+ to 1100+ and you will see a lot more scrapbooks and no political hats. I miss the old
eBay searches where you only got what you searched for, but that's never coming back.

I find myself putting a bunch of minus signs in my search bar to try hopelessly to weed out the garbage.

It could be worse, it could be a search on the Goldin site :

Goldin’s mobile app search works better than the website for some reason.

This has been the standard for well over a year with eBay and drives me nuts. It has nothing to do with political advertising it has to do with their search engine. They have changed the perimeters of what it brings in and grabs completely unrelated items the programming feels is related for extra sales.
Every single search brings in screen filling nonsense even with the most specific search. As mentioned above it now requires the use of subtraction of words or what I find most useful, using quotation marks.

As it is using the common word “baseball” and disregarding the scrapbook with the engine, next time add quotation to the specialized word it is disregarding. I would search using baseball and “scrapbook” “scrap book” and “scrapbooks” in three searches. This should kill the eBay extra items.

Without the quotation it’s grabbing any baseball related scrapbook items. As you can see each and every one of those knockoff hats are all listed in the scrapbooking section so it’s pulling them all.

I'm also kind of numb to it. I've reported political ads as "offensive" both on eBay and YouTube, all to no avail. They don't care, and they certainly aren't going to take it down.

It's a lot of AI nowadays, so "they" is probably some GPU with s/w running on it.

lol, you got it. No conspiracy, no man behind the curtain, just algorithms to make money. They are 99.9% annoying, but if they weren’t making more sales than they feel they lose it would be a different one. You can only really blame the seller listing in the wrong category, not eBay.
