Agree! My father left when I was 7 and I never heard from or seen him again. My mom raised 10 kids on her own. She was both to me.

I was thinking of Father's Day

when I, my son and grandson drove to Fenway to see the Tigers recently. The boy, Thaddeus, was an "honorary bat boy" and we all had access to the field and players before the game.

My Dad

My Dad saved his cards in two cigar boxes on housed playballs 39-41 and the second Bowmans 49 and a complete set of 1950's along with a stack if 1950 Drakes. I remember how I looked in awe when he would take them down. Open up a folding card table and show them to me while watching Yankee games on a 19 inch B&W Zenith. ( We only had 1 Color TV).
In 1972 I was given a box of 64 - 67 topps by a friend of my Moms. I loved them and me and My Dad put them in order and created a checklist of cards we needed. That year my Mom got me 2 other boxes and a huge bag of coins 64's and Old London's. We were hooked. My Dad read that at the 1973 NY antique show at the Garden 2 dealers were selling Baseball cards. We went Met Paul Ghallager who gave us discount cards to a show he was running later that year. My Dad bought some 1940 playball Yankees and I bought an E95 Cobb for $4. We were hooked 2 years later we have complete sets from 48 - 55 Bowman 53- 75 Topps My Dad had a complete 41playball set and he bought a complete 40 PB set from Paul Pollard. Goudeys 34 35 36 38 complete. T201's E95's Youngling Ice-cream only missing Ruth.
It seemed every weekend we came home from a flea Market with something. Never selling or trading our singles only doubles. Some great memories and I am happy to relive them this Father's day.

In 1975 we put a display in our local Library in hopes of attracting more cards...IT WORKED...this is article and us standing next to a case in you can see 51 Msntle and mays some Drakes top center and other Bowman examples. My Dad has a binder with our 40.playball doubles.
Happy Father's day ...Dad I Miss you and still Love you very much..

Jonathan that's an awesome recap of some good memories with your dad. I'm sure it enjoyed it with you as much as you did with me! Story made me smile, thanks for sharing :)
