Photo Identification Help
7 Attachment(s)
Hi-
Can anyone please identify the players in any of these photos? The ones with a deckle edge came with a Dixie Walker snapshot dated 8/2/1940 so I am guessing the others came from the same approximate date. I can't remember if I bought the Indians player with the others or if I purchased it separately. I bought the other two photos together. One has actor Pat O'Brien in a suit in the stands but does anyone recognize anyone else in either photo? Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. Alan |
Players ID
Hey Alan:
I can be of some help. First with jacket over his arm is Early Wynn 100% Dodger with glove Pee Wee Reese 80% Indian is Bob Lemon 100% Leo Durocher second from O'Briens right, our left 90% Last photo Red Sox Dave Ferris 90%, Cardinal is Murray Dickson 99% |
I recognize the first one, but of course can't put a name to face at this moment.
I believe the Indian is Bob Lemon. |
Alan,
I believe the man in street clothes with a ball in his hand is Early Wynn. The fellow in the Indians uniform is definitely Bob Lemon. The bottom Dodger looks like Pee Wee Reese. The Sox-Cardinals shaking hands are Boo Ferriss and Murry Dickson before their 1946 World Series start. |
That Wynn looks suspiciously close to mine! Great to see another survivor. Can I see the back? Wonder how similar they are. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e66da59bbb.jpg

Fred, old friend,
This isn't a contest. I was called away from my computer while I was crafting my response, thus didn't see your response until after I had filed mine. B0b Rich@rds0n |

Just kidding! :) Guess I should have put a smiley face in my first reply. Cheers! |
Thank you guys! I am amazed at how quickly you can identify these players! I really appreciate all of the identifications and am excited to put the HOFers in my HOF photo binder. Lucas, the Wynn snapshot back is completely blank but must have come from the same source as your autographed one.

For Fred and Bob... :D
90. Suspended Chime-in-ation Taking too long to write a post, so when you finally hit ‘submit,’ you see that someone else has already either said the same thing as you or posted answers to the questions you were asking. For everyone, here's a closer look at the pair of unknown Dodgers... Attachment 572041 |

The player on the right here is Curt Davis. He could be the player on the right of the composite I posted, and he has a 'matching' telltale scar or oddity on his chin that appears in many photos of him found on-line...

A lot of similarities (including hat brim bend, mouth tilt, facial expression, etc.), so possibly Freddie Fitzsimmons (although he may seem a bit chubbier here, but the other pic is heavily shadowed, so it might be the same 'weight') being the other guy??

Leaning on the bat has a Billy Herman/Freddie Fitzsimmons look about him for sure. I lean Freddie, but the bat pose makes me think of Herman.

Thank you guys! I will scan the two at a higher resolution and will post tomorrow. I really appreciate the additional help.

I want those 20 hours of my life back that I spent doing everything humanly possible to try to make those faces even remotely identifiable!!!!! :D |

Sorry about that! I always try to limit the resolution so it does not show as too large on most screens. Here are scans at 600 DPI for the two unidentified photos. Thank you for any help you or anyone else can provide (and for your help with the low resolution/crappy scans).

The strangest thing about the 'leaning on bat' guy (as blurry and shadowed as it is) is he weirdly bears a strong resemblance to my very proudly Italian friend, Anthony. Freddie Fitzsimmons could easily be mistaken for Italian (if he isn't, I mean), but doesn't look anything like my buddy. (How's that for visual science?)
Still 'could' be Fitzsimmons, but maybe/probably not. Attachment 572289 |
Babe Phelps ?

I believe the gentleman st Pat O'Brien's right is Toots Shor.

Thank you Darrren, Bob, and Lou! I really appreciate your help.

Image help
Hi Alan,
would it be possible to post a clearer image of the Leo Durocher and friends image.. I believe this image was taken at the 46 World series at Fenway park. I collect Press pins and with a clearer image I would be able to verify that information... Enjoy the rest of your day :) Kind Regards Eliot |
1946 WS Photo?
In the Durocher group shot, an attendee seems to be seeking signatures (well, several attendees...). Either way, the center most individual appears to be handing over a 1946 WS Program (https://www.ebay.com/itm/134058753642), though certainly that image could have been used on other programs...
Grover Cleveland Alexander was in attendance for some of those games (https://www.baseballhistorycomesaliv...-carousel-6221) and kinda/sorta looks like front right attendee? |

I grabbed the pic originally posted and zoomed in on it. The resolution hasn't changed, but it could serve as a stop-gap measure until the OP can get you a higher res version...
