A friend who doesn’t collect ask me what card has increased the most percentage wise in the past 5 years ( 50s,60s70s)…: I said probably tge 52 mantle or Jackie…. Was I right ?
Gibson Rookie ? I am sure someone keeps track of this Thanks Scott |
1949 Leaf Jackie Robinson RC. Mid to High grades are up 10+ times in the last 5 years.

Anything Jackie has increased like crazy. It is wild how undervalued his stuff used to be… don’t go looking up old prices as it will make you go crazy! 🤣

1981 Topps Larry Bird PSA 9 was $40-50 5 years ago, now trades in the $600 range, although was as high as $4K during the 2021 craze. In particular it was mind boggling what happened to this card during the first year of the pandemic.

There was another thread about this fyi, but it wasn't limited to a specific timeframe (postwar vs. prewar).

I was thinking it's probably something basketball, football, or even soccer. Some of these have crashed pretty hard, but some have stayed a lot higher than they were before the big run up in price that occurred a few years ago.

1960 Hemmets Cassius Clay
1949 Bowman Jackie Robinson Ty Cobb in general |
Thanks for all the replies. Jackie seems to be the one

March 2018 it sold for 9200.00 April 2021 it sold for 113,160 (most recent sale for grade). That is an increase of 12.3 times. Unless the card has dropped significantly, it has easily outpaced t206 Cobbs. Now post pandemic, I am not sure what date he was using, Jackie has been pretty flat while Cobb has continued to rise. Jackie cards started to really rise after George Floyd's death and new interest in racial equality. They kept rising through the post Hank Aaron's death boom in early 2021. |
