T206 Hickman - on fire

Thoughts on how this happened? Cracked it out of PSA slab, the discolored portion doesn't feel any different than the rest of the surface, and no change after soaking.

It was glued at one time to an album. The glue discolored it.

There was a group of cards just like the Hickman that sold several years ago. It was caused by reaction to the glue and possibly a chemical used to try and remove the glue. I think there is a thread on here about them but I couldn't find it.
There was a different group that was sold together that Jeff's Dahlen came from here's the thread on some of the cards that were in that group https://www.net54baseball.com/showth...highlight=Glue |
Seems to me that if glue caused the green ink to diminish, then Hickman's jersey collar would show a similar discoloration. I don't think a glue did that.
Dahlen's collar does have discoloration. Neat card! |

Attachment 509223 I have seen a lot of these and I'm confident it was caused by the glue and sun or chemical exposure. |
Yes, its from the glue, and its pretty common, just like Pat said

Thank you for the comparison images. Some sort of glue seems likely, and I think the black ink for the collar was less susceptible to the glue than the green ink was.
