T206 Honus Wagner = Pokemon?
Just finished reading Michael O'Keefe and Teri Thompson's "The Card" about the history of the Gretzky/McNall T206 Wagner and was curious what the latest prices for T206 Honus Wagners have been.
Went on PSA and was surprised to see that there are 30+ Pokemon cards listed as the most recent T206 Honus Wagner sales. https://www.psacard.com/cardfacts/ba...s-wagner/18155 I am used to seeing tons of misinformation on the PSA website in terms of incorrect cards being shown, multi-card lots being counted as a single card, etc. but this one takes the cake. Looks like the Pokemon cards are being confused with the Gretzky/Mcnall Honus Wagner because they are also PSA 8s with certification # 00000001 |
It looks like they're simply scraping the Cert # from ebay listings, so anyone puts a "1" in that field erroneously will have their card show up as that Wagner. I guess I shouldn't be surprised...

Yep, looks like they need to create a filter for serial number 1 and actually confirm any sales before claiming they're trimmed Honus Wagner cards.
Add: it's only three sellers doing it, but three weeks worth really fills the page. PSA could contact them on eBay and tell them to knock it off. I reported them to PSA, so they should get moved to their proper listings in a business day or two. |
I think eBay doesn't owe anything to PSA. Maybe PSA should examine the eBay info they glean instead of depending on eBay info posted by eBay users to be correct.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of these days some modern card, like a Pokemon card, surpasses the price of a nice Wagner. Here's the hypothesis on how this could occur -
We can only surmise that some knucklehead screwed with the space time continuum while traveling back in time to pickup a couple T206 Wager's. This has resulted in this alternate reality we are all living in today. Where else in a sane unaltered universe would a Pokemon card be worth more than a T206 Wags? |
