Vintage Yale & Harvard Football Trophies
2 Attachment(s)
Hey all,
A couple of early football items of interest I thought I'd share: A few months ago I was able to view an incredibly rare, early football trophy cup in a private collection purported to be from the very first rugby-style football game in the U.S., the Harvard-McGill College game in 1874. Here's a link to my article: http://www.antiquefootball.com/aom/aom_may18.htm About a month ago I came across another silver football trophy cup on EBay. After acquiring it, cleaning it up and researching it I discovered that it was awarded to Charles Dupee in 1899 for winning Yale University's punting competition, which was held each spring between players vying to make the varsity team. Dupee played for Yale between 1898 and 1900, and was a member of Yale's 1900 national championship team. http://www.antiquefootball.com/aom/aom_jul18.htm Chris www.antiquefootball.com |
Hey Chris,
as I've already mentioned to you.... these trophies are visually stunning with wonderful historic importance. Great work! Brent |
Wow Chris! Fantastic stuff. Those silver trophies clean up nice with a little bit of polish. Below are the before and after pics for an 1896 silver brush awarded to Charles Gelbert (3x Penn All-American and College Football HOFer) Thanks for sharing.
