Need help identifying brooklyn dodger bat bag
I think I found my holy grail just not sure what exactly it is.
Its 33 inches tall which leads me to believe it's a bat bag. It has numbers 14-39-42 on it which leads me to believe it's Hodges Campy and Robinson. It also has other markings but I have no idea what they are as it's hard to tell. Does anyone know what this is exactly and how it would have been used? Were infielders bats kept together etc? I have been trying to photo match but can not find anything online. I am not selling this, but was wondering if there was a approx value one would put on this. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. https://sportscardalbum.com/c/0lgvz641.JPG https://sportscardalbum.com/c/0lgvz641.JPG https://sportscardalbum.com/c/5gvskfag.JPG https://sportscardalbum.com/c/8m44wrjd.JPG https://sportscardalbum.com/c/d1j20q4k.JPG https://sportscardalbum.com/c/qfz3tks3.JPG https://sportscardalbum.com/c/8is64anx.JPG https://sportscardalbum.com/c/56qsr35x.JPG https://sportscardalbum.com/c/9c1vh639.JPG |

Not sure what that is, but very cool. Congrats! If not for bats, maybe a garment or laundry bag? That would be awesome if those numbers represented Hodges/Campy/JR...especially # 42. Here is a wire photo I have with the three of them.

At 33 inches, it seems too small to be a bat bag, plus they usually appear more slender.
I agree that it's probably a laundering or garment bag. Then again, being Christmas time.... Maybe that's the bag the Dodgers used to send their wish lists to ole' Saint Nick. 😎 |
I have never herd of teams using bags designated for bats of specific players. That just would not be practical. And as someone else pointed, 33 inches is to short for a bat bag. Still a very cool piece, whatever it is!!!!!

Yea it's so weird. Someone mentioned a laundry bag. Could it be the players lockers were next to each other and they all threw their jerseys in the same bag? I see a lot of photos of those 3 together.

Do you know what it is exactly? |
Have no actual idea what it is but is it possible to be a mail bag of some sort? I'm sure fan mail pored in to all teams and they needed a way to separate, sort, deliver etc.
Again I have no idea but with only eyelets for a drawstring I doubt it was used to travel with. Only kept in one area. A quick google search of "1950's mail bag" came up showing a few bags similar with US MAIL stamped instead of Brooklyn Dodgers. Drew |
I have a US Army WWII duffel bag, stamped with a soldiers name, that is virtually the same thing, with the eyelets. I think the Dodgers used this as a general duffel bag that could be used to store and transport just about anything - clothes, equipment, gear, etc..

I'm hoping the 14-39-42 are player numbers. That would be insane. |
I'm not sure what they were used for . They are heavy duty so you really could carry anything . I was hoping a photo would surface with these pictured to solve the mystery

This is DEFINITELY the Initials D.V What could that be for? |
Maybe....

Dazzy is the only Dodger player with the initials DV. Could the 3 numbers be some sort of measurement for his uniform sizes etc...? Who knows! That would be very cool though! Peace, Mike |
I thought that, too.....except we don't have a 14th month with 39 days (that I'm aware of).
It was a joke haha. Can't put one by you! |
