Beautiful 1955 Topps Clemente and Koufax RC's Graded PSA5

I have for sale these 2 rcs. They were both graded a 5 by PSA. I don't know why the graded so low. I cut them out of their original holders as I really thought the grades should have been higher. The Clemente is perfectly centered, has perfect corners and edges. The only issue with the card would be the ink smudge on the front as pictured. I dont' think the card should have been dropped to a 5. In any event, I am selling the Clemente for $2100, the Koufax for $600. Please let me know if you are interested. Payable with Paypal. Thank you.

Dave

Do you have a picture or scan of the cards in the PSA holders?

Well, good news, at least for me. These cards both came back PSA graded 6. They are due to arrive tomorrow. The price will go up significantly. I will post pictured slabbed then they arrive. Thanks to all for looking.

Nice to see you sent them off and got rewarded, good luck with the sale

I guess the card must have repaired itself over the course of time. It amazes me how much stock people put into the decisions made by these inconsistent clowns at PSA and SGC. Maybe that million dollar mantle gets a 7.5 if regraded. Beautiful card (whether a 5 or a 6), and congratulations.

Anyone who buys with any consideration of resale value (and I think that's most of us) really has no choice but to consider the flip these days, whether or not he cares about the grading company's opinion about the condition of the card, in my opinion.

I think if the extent to which the same cards have received different grades over time were fully known, some people would be blown away.

It is your board right :) to say what you want, per the rules, but please put your full name per the bold lettered statement, concerning opinions, near the top of every page. thanks...nothing personal either...

I heard from a friend the other day that sent in a 1951 Bowman Mays, graded BVG 6.5. PSA gave it an 8. Imagine that. That does amazing things for the value of that card. I guess its time to buy all nice looking lower graded cards and resubmit them all. Anybody have luck chasing this stuff?

If only it were that easy. It's not. Far from it.

Not calling you or your friend a liar, but I'd like to see scans of the card in both holders.

Several years ago I had cracked a 1956 Mantle out of a BVG 4.5 holder and submitted it to PSA and got a PSA 7. The only reason it was a BVG 4.5 was because the centering grade was a 4.

Not saying it is totally unbelievable, it's just hard to believe that anything graded by BVG (Beckett) would grade higher with PSA.

Most of what I have learned, is most SGC and Beckett graded cards will almost always receive a lower grade from PSA, but I guess there are exceptions occasionally.

stoogeco 11-25-2016 06:38 PM

Well, here they are. Just came in today. There are 3 total cards, all now graded PSA 6. One Clemente, 2 Koufax. I'm selling them now, Clemente for $3800, Koufax for $1200 each. Please let me know if you think the prices are good. Thanks again to all for the interest in this thread.

From what I remember, Beckett will only give a full grade, one half point higher than the lowest individual grade (Centering, surface, etc).

an inch here, an inch there, pretty soon you have a foot. :D

stoogeco 11-25-2016 08:02 PM

If I worked there I would given it an 8.

Peter_Spaeth 11-25-2016 08:52 PM

It has very nice side to side centering (looking horizontally). But the top to bottom centering is quite off.

Sorry about that. I edited my profile.

Is my price too high? They may be destined for auction.

It seems roughly in line with what recent ones have sold for. But not that many people here are actively looking for one, most likely. On BST you often need to be patient, or cut the price substantially.

stoogeco 11-28-2016 07:26 PM

I posted on ebay, seems to be getting some attention. Thank you for the help.

stoogeco 11-30-2016 09:07 AM

Typical Ebay. Some fool offered me $1400 for the card. I prefer selling on the board WAY MORE than I do on ebay. Talk about an unreasonable offer.

It's probably a board member that made that offer! Haha!

Clemente auction just closed, sold for $3762. Thanks to all for goign with me on the journey of this card.

bobbyw8469 12-10-2016 04:48 AM

I had the Koufax and Clemente at the same grade you had at some point in time in my collecting career. I am BLOWN away at how much those cards have increased in value, as I remember getting around $1,000 for my Clemente in a PSA 6. And that was only two short years ago!! Not sure if this is a bubble or not.....I'm just along for the ride.
