Can you name the Major League batter with 7000(or more) AB's who holds the record for the least number of K's in his career ?

This is one that I know. I don't remember how many it was, but Joe Sewell had insanely low number of k's. He had <10 k's in most of his seasons. As an Astros fan, it's not uncommon to see a guy strike out 10 times in four games.

Wow. And I was impressed with Joe D's mark...Joe S blows him away. Insane.

Sewell - career - 7132 AB / 114 SO. That's a SO every 62.56 AB !!!!!!! Unreal

1925 - 608 AB / 4 SO ---> One per 152 AB (if I'm not mistaken 2 were in one game).


BUT -- 1927 -- 3 SB / 16 CS :(

Joe DiMaggio 1941. 30HR 13K. I think Adam Dunn may have struck out more in a weekend.

Last years AL MVP had 70 more strikeouts last season than the answer had in his entire fourteen year CAREER. There are ZERO active players with more than 5,000 at bats and an average of less than 10 strikeouts per 100 ab's. Three hundred and thirty two players have finished their careers with a less than 10 ratio.

Although Joe's absolute K's are the lowest....his AB / K ratio is 2nd to who ?

Again 7000 AB's (or more).

Placid Polanco? Not sure (without cheating) if he actually had 7000 at bats or not.

Wild guess: Yogi Berra.

I would second Willie Keeler.

Keeler is the correct answer with an AB /K ratio = 63.1

Sewell's AB / K = 62.5


One more once......

There is another bit of interesting trivia that may be unique to Joe Sewell....what am I alluding to ?

I'm pretty sure it's Placido Polanco. Totally guessed but he has 7887 PA and only 538 K's good for about a 68%

Josh, Polanco's AB / K ratio would be ~14.7.

Why are we using AB's to determine this though ??? Shouldn't it be PA ??? To me that makes more sense

Polanco only struck out 538 times
Total plate appearances 7,887

538/7,887 = .06821 Or striking out every 68.2 appearances at the plate.

You have the ratio inverted and you're putting the decimal in the wrong place.

Correct .. 7887/538= one strikeout every 14.7 plate appearance

538 / 7887 = .0682 which means he strikes out 6.8% of his plate appearances.
