Ouch!
Thoughts on this piece? Studio prototype or just fan made? Big price drop from before...

Somebody didn't just take a bath on the deal. They took a tsunami.

Thin market.... A lot of us live it.

WoW!!!
I'm Not at All Pointing Any Fingers at Anyone... I'm just genuinely curious if Legendary had anything to do with the Low Opening Bid? From $10,000 to $2,500 is quite the dip in a Reserve/Opening Bid on such a Unique piece. Now I wish I pulled the Trigger and Placed the $4500 Bid that I talked myself out of... Sometimes the committee in my noggin' are no better than the 3 Stoogies tryin to out maneuver the Marx Brothers... I just can't figure out why the consigner would allow for such a low opening bid. .. "I Really Feel for the Consigner!!!" ~ Cause I feel terrible for Not Placing the Bid! I can't imagine how they feel!?!? Oh Well... Back to my E90-1's ; -) |
I think that the previous sale price was extremely high, probably two bidders going at it, and the true value for something like this is much closer to this year's selling price. Just my opinion...........
|
Just another example of mafia intervention.

That's the first time I've seen the Matty photo used in his T206 portrait.
I didn't realize that so many of the T206 portraits came from Joseph Hall photographs. |
Was thinking the same Scott, surprised there wasn't more interest from the t206 crowd.
|
The link to the August 2013 auction states that there was only one bid, and that it was (with the juice) over 70% more than the "opening bid."
What am I missing? |
Maybe b/c it was the Live auction and only one phone bid? Not sure.
|
Another factor that may have played into the overall exposure for the item: lot #6 in the first sale, lot #599 in the 2nd.
|
But, if there was only one bid, then the bidding war theory doesn't hold water. Additionally, why would the one and only bid be so high above the opening?
I am sure that I am missing something, though. Just "thinking out loud" here. |
Looks like most the Live Auction bid counts are low, they must not count floor bids on the website.

The live auction had a reserve that only one bid met.
That is the opening bid would not meet the reserve. |
T210 Jackson
Speaking of ouch, look at what the T210 Joe Jackson SGC Auth ended at last night.
Hammered at $57.5K, $68K with juice. Per description, consignor bought card for $92,800 in 2005. If there was a consignment fee, the consignor lost around $40K from original purchase. Am I correct? Was it trimmed, or a bad factory miscut? Tony |
There was also another lot I was watching, the Perez Ashburn. I was curious why the open was only $2500 if a similar one sold for $13,000 in 2013

This was an expensive cut from a composite team cabinet card too.....

It's amazing what happens to the price of cards, when 1 or 2 bidders either enter or exit the bidding picture.
I think there are now 18-20 examples of the T210 Jackson. |
Talking about beatings, I saw this in the recent Mile High auction: Link.
In the auction description for a 1933 Blue Bird Ruth PSA 8.5, the listing states that the consignor purchased this card from an ebay BIN for $18,000. It sold on Mile High for $4,751.67 after BP. A different one of these also graded 8.5 is now available on ebay for a mere 12.5K BIN: Link |

I think Hunt Auctions or Lifson were the first to auction this piece off. I can't remember how much it sold for.. It's an awesome display.

Wow, a 34K drop in just a few years. Shame that Dougie couldn't shill this card up to what he did in 2008.

Expensive Cut
Leon--interested--why do you think this was cut from a cabinet? If so, what cabinet?

That is a new one for me. Do you have an image of the cabinet? It would have to be huge, since the card is Kalamazoo Bats size.

Tony--in all my T210s I have no card like the Jackson. I strongly believe that the TPG got it right and that the bottom is trimmed.

Perhaps more like hand cut years ago. Not necessarily trimmed to deceive as we think of it now. But the sides are far from parallel and uniform.
|
Scott--Agreed. I don't think the trimming was done to deceive.

Based on my prior post, the card supposedly sold in Mastro 2008 auction for $102K in a PSA auth holder. Was that sale not legit? Any thoughts? Tony |
