I'm eying this '52 Cookie Lavagetto which is going under the hammer over at Heritage Auctions.

It's a beautiful card, excellent centering on the front side, with sharp corners, color, eye appeal...but I'm concerned about the reverse. It is is as about as off center as you can get short of being cut off.

I don't think SGC notes qualifiers like MC or OC (and I wonder if the off center reverse is why this card got a 6.5...it looks much better).

When I buy SGC, it's with the intent to cross to PSA for my registry set. And I'm concerned it WILL get an OC or possibly even an MC rating from PSA, thereby negatively impacting it's value. So I'm thinking twice about buying.

What are your thoughts? Do you place as much weight on the centering of the reverse side as you would on the front?

Best,

BR

I'll defer to the registry and post-war specialists, but I can tell you PSA either does not care too much about back centering or is inconsistent on the subject. Back centering doesn't much matter to me and I am not a registry guy, but here's a prewar card to illustrate:

BR,

The real question is what will PSA think since your decision is registry driven. My personal opinion is that I care less about centering on the back than I do the front. That is a beautiful card despite what PSA might think. Wish I could provide some insight into what they might do. Sorry, good luck.

IMO, and it's worth what you're paying for it ;), the back oc will only result in MC qualifiers, and only if there is portion of the next card on the back. I think this one might slide through! VERY tough card to find that well centered, great find

Thanks for the feedback all. I really do love that card, and I know, at the end of the day you buy the card, not the plastic. And like you, I'm not as concerned with the reverse, as long as nothing is cut off, the positioning doesn't matter to me.

But to an extent one has to play the game, and I'm always thinking ahead to upgrading these cards, so when the time comes to sell I want to be able to recoup if not profit from my investments.

But based on the comments here, I'm gonna seriously consider that card. It IS a beaut.
