Reprints? Please Advise
|
The only one thats still active is the R319 Ruth. card pictured is not a reprint...
Card pictured is in some type of holder with corner cutouts, yet he doesnt mention it. that alone is a major red flag beyond the no feedback womans name ID IMO Id sure ask alot of questions and ask for a complete scan with holder... and a back scan (with a penny and dime on top :) ) before I would bid on a new seller like that. Looks like a scam, but card pictured is good |
Plus... All 3 auctions have very different scans, Id say stolen scans IMO. And maybe a scammer who is not all that smart (kid) my guess :)

I guess rarerookies asking for help on whether cards are reprints fits the definition of "irony":

Quoted from rarerookies in one of the forums Rob posted. I have to agree about the irony.
"I don't know what can I say. There is a demand for them and I like em and don't have the money for the real things." I think rarerookies will find out the hard way that the demand for this crap is scammers looking to flip them as originals on ebay. That's why they seem to sell for $10-20 at times, rather than .99 cents. If they all sold for .99, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be worth anyone's while to make them, thus the moral quandry that rarerookies should be finding himself in. I for one will join in on the laughter when he accidentally buys back one of his "artificially aged" cards, thinking he got a deal on an authentic one. Nothing against rarerookies. I fully understand his sentiment. But there are a lot of f*cko's are out there waiting to turn some innocent sentiment into a scam. He's either blindly innocent, or doesn't care. And considering he's been told a few times about the ramifications of what he's doing, I'd go with doesn't care. I'd view that as just straight negligent and disrespectful to the hobby as a whole. Just a side note. I'm pretty sure I bought one of rarerookies' aged '54 Aaron's and a '52 Matthews for sh!ts and giggles of the bay a while back for about a buck each. And while I agree that they are interesting pieces, the sizes are wrong.. Which in my opinion is a good thing, as it makes it easier to spot the fakes when you have them in hand... Before anyone jumps down my back about buying 'em. I know, I feel guilty about it. |
Someone who spends their days and nights selling reprints and then questions them to a board of knowledgeable collectors is either an idiot or a moron. Take your pick.
The thing that bites me is that he is quickly racking up positive feedback for selling this crap. If we could actually see the buyers ID, I would put everyone of them in my saved sellers search and make sure I keep a watch out for them. They are surely going to turn around and try to sell them for a profit as "real". Thanks Rarerookies for your contribution to the hobby and to this board. Previous sentence was sarcasm in case rarerookies didn't get it. |
Rob, that was funny, Oh! The Irony!
On a side note: One of my pet peeves is the "Older Reprint" line he (and others like him) use. Older than what? He is literally making these today, and he even admitted he was doing so. I don't understand why someone thinks buying an older reprint is going to induce anyone into purchasing their wares (not to mention the fact that it is a bold faced lie b/c they are not "older"). |
