So this guy is selling artificially aged reprints that are not labeled as such. Topps still owns the copyright to many of these images. Most of these will undoubtedly end up on ebay being sold by someone that types in ALL CAPS with stories of how the seller found the card in grand daddy's attic. Any problems here?

Default Not everyone's in your leauge Gashouse

Some of us can't afford the real thing but enjoy the hobby and the cards as much as you do Gashouse. Only an uneducated buyer would get these cards confused with the originals.

honestly I've been looking for something like this for a while. I have an idea for a project that I wanted some reprints for since I can't afford originals. I've already got some t206 reprints for it. I'd be interested . I know many here may not know me, but I'm not one you have to worry about trying to pass off fakes as the real deal on ebay.

I'd love to know what reprints you have and what price you'd be looking for for a lot in bulk.....not really looking for duplicates though.

Exactly!.. Now see if you can guess who will ultimately spend hundreds on you future "granpas cards"?

I don't know what can I say. There is a demand for them and I like em and don't have the money for the real things. That must be what I have a Folex instead of a Rolex. I appreciate what cards, watches and whatever else represents but living on middle class money

There is definitely a place in the hobby for reprinted cards. I know several people who have bought reprints of classic sets like T206 and Goudey 33 so they could still enjoy the visual aspects of the cards and read the backs. However, artificially aging reprints so they look like originals has made for a less enjoyable ebay experience. Many unsuspecting people have probably bought these cards and hold them in their collection as real cards, or have struggled to get their money back when they realize what they bought. It also hurts people selling legitimate ungraded cards.

Well said Vintagecpa. Do these other people ever read the main board? Every day, someone is outing an auction on ebay or other website offering some type of reprints being sold as authentic cards. I have nothing against reprints, as long as they are labeled as such, and sold legally. Can't these posters see the hypocrisy of allowing this (and even defending it) on the B/S/T board while complaining about it on the other part of the board?

Calling artificially aged cards "vintage reprints" is deceptive and "we don't take kindly..."

Yup. I have a problem here. Why can't people mind their own business? If you don't like them, don't buy them. The OP clearly describes what he is selling - "vintage reprints." Nowhere does he state where / how he obtains them, or if they're "artificially aged" during the printing process or after the printing process. I say that because of the accusatory remarks that indicated that he was the one that was artificially aging them as if he were trying to decieve somebody. He is doing nothing deceptive. There is indeed a market for these, as even expressed by another poster. I, too, have purchased a similar "artificially aged" T206 Wagner (not from the OP) just to have one with my other T206 HOFers. I'm glad that it's "artificially aged" because it blends in with the other HOFers in my set and doesn't look out of place in my curio cabinet.

Even if they end up on eBay being sold as you described, how is it the OP's fault? He's doing his part by accurately describing them. It is up to the buyer to do the same thing should he decide to sell them. If a buy a knock-off Rolex and sell it as such, is it my fault or responsibility that the buyer turns around and lists it on eBay as a real one? No. If I sell a used car as having a salvaged title, but the buyer takes it out of state and washes the title to hide the fact, is it my fault or responsibility? No. I could go on and on and give you dozens of examples, but I hope you get the point. It is ultimately up to the buyer to know what they are buying – sports cards or anything else.

It's a shame that some people's lives are such that they have nothing better to do than to try to impose their beliefs on others.

MODS: You posted the following in another thread: “In the B/S/T area there should be no interference in the posts by 3rd parties.” Isn’t this interference?

David,
There's nothing I can say that will change your mind. I'll let others on this board decide. I've stated my position.

I also think a pretty good argument could be made that these cards shouldn't be for sale in this section.

GHG,

I certainly understand your concern. It's a valid argument and you are definitely entitled to your opinion. I respect your opinion and likewise you should respect the OPs desire to sell these cards and not interfere. Like it or not, he is not doing anything unethical, illegal or immoral.

I also agree with vintagecpa in that this probably wasn't the right section.
