Goodwin Auction Pick Ups / Prices

Anyone get some nice cards from the goodwin?

Was it just me... or did the T206 rare backs go for very good deals?

SGC20 BL460 under $2400

PSA 4 Drum $2600

Not sure why the PSA 1 Red Hindu sold for almost as much as the SGC 10 Red Hindu... I would much rather have the SGC10 one...

Any thoughts on this?

wonkaticket 06-04-2010 06:13 AM

No doubt I think we need to adjust some prices when it comes to backs.

It's very clear to see that BL460 is not pulling the coin it once was.

REA and now Goodwin seem to show that...in fact it was a good thing I needed the Murphy I bought for my back set recently. I can perhaps justify the overpayment as I clearly paid way more than market value based upon the same grade card going off in Goodwin for way less than I paid. No complaints though happy with my purchase and it was for my back run etc.

However if I was in the market for another BL460 I would have to take into consideration the past auction results.

Drum is on the rise and I don’t think Uzit would be far behind Drum today.

As for the PSA 4 Drum in Goodwin...I'm shocked that card is a 4 that is one ugly 4 IMO.

All of this flips sides over the years in another 3 years Drum will be down and perhaps BL460 is crazy again. With that said as of today it seems to be BL460 is a bit soft.

Cheers,

John

P.S. I guess SGC didn’t review the Brown Old Mill Dolly Stark in time or it wasn’t a Brown Old Mill?

Goodwin pick-ups

Guys--I don't know if this is the correct thread for my request (Leon/Brian move me if I'm OT here), but if the winner(s) of the Emmerke, Patton and Phelan OJs have dupes they would like to sell, I'm interested, and please email me at mpeich@comcast.net.

The final price on Patton was quite strong, to say the least.

Thanks, Mike

I managed to snag this E98 Vaughn, 2nd highest ever graded. I am trying to complete a red background E98 set since Scott's already got the complete green one :D

M's_Fan 06-04-2010 09:52 AM

I picked up a few T205 St. Louis players that I think went for decent prices. $284 for the Huggins and $235 for the Bresnahan. I was the only bidder on the Bresnahan.

I picked up this c1900's cabinet of Tinker. It is the image used for his T206 Hands on Knees pose - thought it was pretty cool!

Rare backs?

I started going to card conventions with my Dad when I was 5. I stopped for a while in high school. Got interested again when ebay started. ( Suddenly I could afford 'em! )

Stopped again, hard times.

Started again, good times. :) I Don't remember the t206 rare backs being so popular. Maybe I was not paying close enough attention. I bet collecting a set is fun, but have they always drawn high dollars like that?

FUBAR 06-04-2010 11:55 AM

I would be getting that E98 re-slabbed, i just couldn't have such a beautiful card flopping around lose in a holder. Id either re-submit to PSA for a better holder or SGC for a proper one.

Richard - but it's slabbed as Chance! Great pickup (and price) on a wonderful companion piece.

I bought the Drum. I think the scan didn't do the card justice. I have almost purchased that card on two separate occasions from Scott over the past few years, but never got around to pulling the trigger. The card is most definitely better than a 3...probably deserves a 3.5. I'll post higher res scans so you can see once I receive it. Overgraded or not, I still think I got a heck of a deal getting it at PSA 2 prices.

wonkaticket 06-04-2010 11:59 AM

Very tough E98 nice pick up Bob!

I agree, JP. That Warhop was a great pick-up!

I ended up buying the Red hindu Ford.

Not an absolute steal at $470... but in looking at the other red hindu which sold for $89 less... Id rather have mine for the extra $89..

Nice pickup JP. I'd be happy to buy it back from you plus a few bucks if you would rather flip it. I'm terribly disappointed by the selling price and would much rather have the card. Having said that, I'm at least glad that someone here ended up with it.

wonkaticket 06-04-2010 12:31 PM

Bill Goodwin has decent nice large scans I think..

http://photos.imageevent.com/piojohn.../Lot95a_lg.jpg

Don’t get me wrong JP still a nice card to have, I’m just saying comparative to other 4’s that I have seen over the years Drum included. I think the cards visual appeal isn’t on the same level hence I’m not 100% sure it’s a 4…technically it may be but visually not so much.

In the end the cards visual look surely helped you grab a good deal congrats! :)

Also didn’t Hank & Scott list this same card in the BST back in the day for 4-5k?

Cheers,

John

P.S. Not comparing players or prices…just the look of a VGEX (4) card.

Why did they call him sleepy, anyone know?

JP 06-04-2010 03:08 PM

I think that the Griffith has a big crease you can't see in that scan...from the top right hand corner diagonally through his face.

Scott, I kind of want to keep the card, but email me and we'll talk. I know it may hold sentimental value...

time left

I finally got on another browser last night and could finally see the time left...didn't really matter as it went until 3 AM anyway..I won the 3 e97 panels and the T215 Pirate back Heine Wagner....I honestly think I got a deal on the E97s....the Pirate back may be a little high.

Jantz 06-04-2010 10:38 PM

Nice pickups everyone!

Cool card Johnny!

I remember that T206 Howard you mention. Your Randall is the better example of the two, in my opinion. Congrats! :)

Email sent.

No winnings for me. :(

JP 06-04-2010 11:07 PM

Chicago would be furious if he saw two Red Hindus go for under $500. He never believed anyone when we said it was possible.

Blunder19 06-05-2010 12:20 AM

Thank god Chicago is gone.. no more 100 post arguing... and I think he may have been driving up t206 back prices

Whats the next big auction coming up?

Jamie

mrvster 06-05-2010 02:03 PM

Nice Randall Johnny !! He was the first Amish player to make it big !!

oldmancards 06-05-2010 07:48 PM

Sovereogn pick up

I picked up the T206 Sovereign Hugh Duffy graded GAI 6 for $267. PSA values this card at $550 for a PSA 6 and $325 for a PSA 5. Those prices don't consider the back variation, so I think I got a very fair price.

mrvster 06-06-2010 03:43 PM

T206 randall

ANTHONY

thanks!!!i have only seen one other example.... it was a del howard, i was underbidder about 3 years ago on ebay...still couldn't find an example since, and was a "white whale" of sorts to me...i have posted before asking, but no hits...i have/seen ghosted t206 players, but none with the "name shift" over the border...the bush in Goodwin was the only other one that has come close....

Jantz has a scan of the del howard if your reading maybe u can post??

DOES ANYONE HAVE/SEEN ANOTHER??i would love to see more examples
:)
thanks

Johnny

Jantz 06-06-2010 07:28 PM

The big question is how are you going to display that complete e97 set in 3 sheets? Great looking! :)

gabrinus 06-07-2010 02:10 PM

display

Thanks Bob....I thought I might display it on the wall at the liquor store. Your E98 Vaughn is nice...that is the nicest one I have seen.

chaddurbin 06-07-2010 03:12 PM

those e97 uncut sheets are impressive!

gabrinus 06-07-2010 07:35 PM

e97 sheets

Thanks......I feel I got lucky on them.....I wish I knew their history.

Very cool pickup. I think you got a great deal on it.

They were found about eight or nine years ago along with some partial E93 blank back sheets. I believe it was one E93 set in two sheets, one in three, and another partial. The other part of the partial was cut up into what are now E93 blank backs - often advertised as proofs. If I remember right, they were all found in an envelope of somebody whose relative worked for the lithographer back in the day. Peter Calderon or Doug Allen might be able to give clearer details, but that is my recollection. It was originally auctioned by Mastro Auctions at the time.

P.S. Here is how my E93 sheets from the same find are displayed.

That is great info.....that is what makes Net54 great..thanks again..amazing.

Leon 06-07-2010 10:13 PM

Jim

Jim- I really like how you framed the sheets. Very nice.

chaddurbin 06-07-2010 10:14 PM

i LOVE your full sheet jim. knew u had it but not sure if you wanted it be known, like the other 90% of your collection besides the e93s/t206s.

i wish whomever didn't cut up all those sheets and put those e93s/e97s in individual SGC A holders...that sucked.
