On this day in 1917...(aka. Bare your Knuckles)

...Eddie Cicotte pitched a no-hitter against the Browns. Cicotte would go on to lead the league in wins and ERA and his White Sox would win the World Series of 1917.
Sadly for Cicotte, he was banned from baseball after 1920 - he did it for the wife and kiddies... (on the heels of 2 superb seasons in which he won a total of 50 games). Though he is forever ineligible for the Hall of Fame, his lifetime statistics when he was banned in his prime are better than several existing Hall members. Show your cards of old Knuckles! |
