Thanks for the mention, Ted, yes, I am still looking for a T213-1 Rhoades hands at chest. If anyone has one to trade, let me know.
I am fortunate to have these 2 T206's, though. The BL350 has been changed by an earlier collector to a "Kansas City" card. |

Here're Doolan and Bender Trees. I'm finally scanning to make a flickr page. |

Hi Rob If I recall correctly, the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art has on display a complete 68-card 1910 COUPON set in their Sportscard department. Therefore, we do know the "Dusty" Rhoades card exists with a 1910 COUPON back....despite PSA's pop report data indicating none. You're very, very fortunate to have 67 cards in your 1910 COUPON set. It's an amazing accomplishment. Good Luck on eventually finding Rhoades. I embarked on this adventure approx. 20 years ago. After attaining 25 % of set, I gave up on it. Shown here are some of my nicer cards in this set. https://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan...onmatty75x.jpg . http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...poncobb50x.jpg https://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan...nmatty75xb.jpg . http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...edCobb75xb.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...uponChance.jpg . http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...onChanceBx.jpg https://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan...Willett50x.jpghttps://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan...Willett19b.jpg TED Z T206 Reference . |

Nice Coupons there...On Rhoades populations, as you say the MET has one online from Burdick...
www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/417937 Also, SGC's pop report shows 2 examples of Rhoades.. an SGC 3 and 1.5. GFG had a raw one that could be the SGC 1.5, or maybe it's still raw. I've had a lot of help from board members to get to 67. I still have lots of other want-lists going to keep me busy. |

Rob Speaking about Doolan....my Doolan has evidence that it was glued to the outside of the carton which contained approx. 200 cigarettes of this new T-brand. My contention is that 1910 COUPON cigarettes were never packaged in the standard "10-pack" format (as most of the Tobacco products of that time). Furthermore, it's my guess that the cards with no paper loss on their backs were simply inserted within these cartons of cigarettes. Quite a number of my 1910 COUPON cards have this typical paper loss on their backs since I was able to acquire them at less cost. How many of your cards have the paper loss problem ? http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...PONDoolanX.jpg . https://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan...ONDoolanBx.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...poncobb50x.jpghttp://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...edCobb75xb.jpg TED Z x T206 Reference . |

Ted, I'm currently going through and scanning what I have for T213-1. I will get back to you on an exact count later this week. I have upgraded along the way, so most of my near set is free of back damage, but I have a lot of lower grade duplicates with all sorts of back damage. Here's a Mathewson with back damage.
I don't know very much about the origins or packing of Coupon cards, and would listen to all ideas about them. |
IMO the paper loss/addition and glue residue on some of the T213-1's is the same as what is seen on many of the cards from that era that were glued in scrap books.

Rob Whenever you report back is fine with me. I never get tired of our 1910 COUPON discussions. You and I really appreciate the complexity of this 68-card set. Ted Breitenstein is my favorite Southern Leaguer in this set. Ted pitched a "perfect" No-Hitter in his 1st Major League start, pitching for the St. Louis Browns (Oct. 4th, 1891). https://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan...350xCOUPON.jpg https://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan...50xCOUPONb.jpg One of my favorite Major Leaguers in this set is Miller Huggins. Suggested here is a lesser challenge than putting together this set. Try doing a fun-run of your favorite Major League team.
I am having fun doing this with several teams. Ted, and any other Coupon collectors that would like to chime in, I counted 44/104 T213-1 with minor to major back damage. I have upgraded over the last 40 years, so if I have a nicer example, I don't add a new dupe with back damage. In other words, the percentage of Coupon 1's with back damage may be higher than 40%.
Here are 4 tougher cards that I do not have dupes for, and would like to upgrade, plus 4 examples of Fletcher. |

Your set and inventory of 1910 COUPON cards, with respect to back damage percentage, is comparable to that I have seen searching for these cards throughout the years. Good news, I had forgotten I upgraded Engle at Hunt 4 years ago.
In his encyclopedia, Lew Lipset said about T213-1, "It is doubtful that the set is complete at 68." It was in the 1980's and nothing new has surfaced. I'm guessing that is not still his belief. It would be fun to find a new T213-1, like Collins, Tris Speaker, or Bresnahan bat. |

I did not think this quiz would be this tough. Here is one more hint.....
He played BB for 14 years, on five different East Coast teams TED Z T206 Reference . |
Hmmm....this one's a tough one! As another guess, he's not a t206 player, but could it be Casey Stengel?
|
I was thinking that as well...but I thought it had to be a T206 player. Casey meets the other clues (14 years, five teams, high World Series batting average) and I know he hit the first home run in Ebbets Field (not sure what the other two stadiums are).
I see now that Ted never said it was a T206 player...but I guess since it was in the T206 thread I was not clear. |
I never noticed this before but the fact that there are several southern leaguers in the 213-1 (aka 1910) coupon set, really complicates the concept (now taboo?) of coupons being considered t206 cards and just a burdick classification mistake. It really seems to point to a completely unique way the creators conceived and built the coupon offering.

Hey guys,
You guessed the right guy.... CASEY STENGEL ....I knew you would. Casey hit the first home run in Ebbets Field (April 5, 1913). In the 1923 World Series vs the Yankees, Stengel’s inside-the-park HR in the ninth inning won Game One for McGraw’s Giants. This moment was immortalized, as it was the first HR in Yankee Stadium. You are very welcome. Casey Stengel fascinated me, when he became NY Yankees Manager in 1949. I was only 10 years old then. I could tell you many stories of how he led the Yankees to the five consecutive World Championships (1949 to 1953). Especially, when Johnny Mize single-handedly beat the Dodgers in the 1952 W.S. Furthermore, Don Larsen's PERFECT W.S. game in 1956. TED Z T206 Reference . |

I think we can all collectively agree that we need to preserve and carry on the grand legacy that Ted has left for us. The world has lost a heck of an individual.

I wish I had visited with Ted and Charlotte one more time... He and I had multiple common interests beyond ball cards. Ted was an intelligent, soft spoken gentleman.
