Default cracker jack question

Posted By: jim sexton

I have been collecting 1915 federal league cracker jacks. The Standard Catalog has Otto Knabe as the most expensive card in that 50 card sub-set. Why?

#1 card and Baltimore both command a premium.

I agree...

To expand a bit, card #1 was most likely to be atop a stack of cards. There, it was subject to more wear and abuse than cards further down in the stack. Since the card stock was a bit flimsy, fewer #1 cards have survived to our 21st century.

the #1 card ???

The old rubber band theory; in the 1914 set the last card is Jimmy Walsh, also a high value Fed. Also in the 1914 Feds. #60 Zeider is high, probably due to he was relpaced in 1915 set.

Edit to say I gotta' start thinking or typing faster !!

Gregg is a team affiliation variation- he's shown with Cleveland in '14 and Boston AL in '15

48 Harry Lord was replaced by Steve ONeil in 15
#60 Rollie Zeider had 2 cards in 14, 60 and 116, with different pictures. #60 was replaced with Oscar Dugey in 15
#62 Jay Cashion in 14, Willie Mitchell in 15
#88 The big one. 2 players remained in both sets, but with pose changes. The most significant is Christy Mathewson. The 14 is a pitching pose, the 15 is a portrait. The 14 is extremely desirable and is quickly becoming one of the most expensive cards of the era.
#93 Derrill Pratt. Pose change, once again throwing to portrait.
#99 Another highly desirable player change. Frank Chance was replaced by Hal Chase in 15. In the last 3 years Ive seen a lot less of Chance than of the Matty, but it goes for less.
#111 Nixey Calahan replaced by Herb Moran.

thanks grif

I know there are some other changes to the team names does anyone have a list of those handy.

I have seen plenty of 1914 Chance's I believe Leon has one that has been sitting on his site for some time now.

The 1014 Pratt is harder to get then either of the above and the other cards do get a premium with the Callahan being the next hardest IMO.

James G

Looking for 1915 Cracker Jacks and 1909-11 American Caramel E90-1.

Here you go James-

<#48 Harry Lord was replaced by Steve ONeil in 15<br>#60 Rollie Zeider had 2 cards in 14, 60 and 116, with different pictures. #60 was replaced with Oscar Dugey in 15
#62 Jay Cashion in 14, Willie Mitchell in 15

#111 Nixey Calahan replaced by Herb Moran.

In addition, the following players cards reflected different team affiliations in 15- 6,7,19,29,38,40,43,47,55,66,92,108,118,121,125,134

Lastly, the 14 Bresnahan (#17) comes with and without the number printed on the back.>>

So a complete set of '14-'15 with variations would be exactly 200-
176, plus 7 player/pose variations, plus 16 team variations, plus Bresnahan no number.
