Good luck to Pete as he heads off to Heritage Auctions!

I was pretty shocked by him leaving Mastro.

That's right! Forgot he was up there!

I have met Pete on a couple occasions and found him to be quite insightful. His knowledge for caramel cards is phenomenal, in particular. Best of luck, man!

Congrats to Peter in his new position. I am sure Chris Ivy is thrilled to have such talent on his team. It also means that Peter and I are neighbors.....which is great as we have been friends for several years........

This is a win-win situation. Pete gets to move down south and work for an up and coming sports card auction company. Heritage gets the benefit of having a collector who is not only knowledgeable but is also a heckuva nice guy. Congrats to Peter and Heritage.

I have already planned on doing a lot of business with Heritage, still trying to work out the details and what and how I will submit items to them. I think it will be interesting to see what Pete may add to their sports auctions. Having more options and experienced people is always a plus for any business.

Pete was one of the guys who really helped me when I started collecting turn of the century cards. Heritage is lucky to have someone as knowledgeable and as universally respected as Pete.

Joe, I don't have a clue -- I just know that when I read advertising I tend to believe it. Seriously, though, it's good to see that Pete's mug shot will be taken down from the Post Office wall above. So now the Best People include Doug Allen and Bill Mastro? Awesome.

I knew Pete when he was just a lowly collector like most of us, and he was very knowledgeable, and also honest and ethical. I thought Mastro picked a good person for the job when they hired him.

Card collectors like to complain about Mastro once in a while, but all their card experts that I knew I thought were top notch, both as experts in their field and as ethical hobbyists.

Does Mastro get a player to be named later in return?

David, I know you mean well and speak from the heart but the last thing I would ever associate with Mastro is ethics.

But don't you still buy from them?

James, if I stopped buying from all auction houses that I don't think engage in fraud, large and small, I'd have a pretty small range of cards from which to buy. Let's not blame the victims here, ok?

Edited to add: and the amount of cards I buy from Mastro is a small fraction of what it once was.

If you see something from Mastro you want you will buy it. You buy less because they probably have less you have wanted recently. We have had this chat many times and we are similar in our thinking. Cards trump all....as we are card addicts.....

Actually, Leon, the reason I buy less from Mastro has more to do with my belief that they have engaged in shill bidding/fraud and less to do with their selection. For the record, I don't think this problem is limited to Mastro.
