Default Need help with "ONE" card

Posted By: David

Hi guys....

I'm in the process of selling my entire D.Wright Collection so I can purchase ONE really nice vintage card. This is where I need some help from you guys. I would like to get a RC card of a HOF player graded in PSA/SGC condition.

Besids the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle, what other card out there is feasible?
My price range is around ~3000

Thanks in advance...if possible, i would like to talk through AIM. My s/n is TeacherVido!

I'd vote for a T206 Cobb, or a '33 Ruth. Tough to go wrong with either, and they are both icons.

FYI the 1952 topps Mantle is not Mantle's rookie card as oft publicized. His rookie is the 1951 Bowman issue. You could get a decent Vg-EX to Ex copy for $3K.

A 1951 Bowman Mays (rookie) NrMt could be had for $3k as well.

1933 is not Ruth's rookie card.

If I were going for one card in baseball. I would probably try for as nice an example as I could afford of one of the five original HOF'ers.

Probably Cobb or Wagner.

Opps, sorry, missed the RC designation. Does it have to be a rookie? they seem disproportionately expensive.

It's almost too generic of a question to give a good answer to without knowing what you like. If I had 3k I probably wouldn't be stuck on a rookie HOF'er....I would figure out what I like and then start down that path. Do you want to be a set collector, type card collector, pre-wwII only, team collector, particular player/HOF collector etc...?? Once you figure out a goal then you can try to get there. If your goal is only 1 card, period, and it's going to be a rookie of a major HOF'er, then maybe a 1925 Gehrig Exhibit in a 2-3 condition. Might be in your interest to figure out a goal first though unless your mind is made up on 1 card only....good luck and let us know what you decide. regards

Wow that's a tough one.

If you're dead set on a single card, I'd probably sit down and make two lists.

The first list would be of the players that are worthy (based on my opinion) of being the only card in my collection.
The second list would be of the various issues that would be worthy (again, my opinion) of being the only card in my collection.

Then I'd try to find a match on that list that works for me and fits in my budget.

Regards,

Richard.

NB. For the record, I've actually tried this a couple of times hoping to create the wantlist for a 10-card collection. I have yet to be able to narrow it down to less than 25

thanks guys for the info..

Some info about me. I'm 27 yrs old and I am in the process of selling my modern day player collection, David Wright. I'm a DIE hard Met fan and before you say Tom Seaver, I'm NOT a big fan of him.

I would like to just BUY one vintage RC card graded in PSA 4/5 condition.

I would like to pick up either a...

Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, or Mickey Mantle. I'm not sure why but the 1951 Bowman intrigues me!
