Default T205 backs - order of scarcity

Posted By: David R

I'm looking for help with a few questions:

(1) Does anyone have a list of all the T205 backs available and their order of scarcity?

(2) Do these mirror the scarcity of the T206 backs that the two cards share (i.e., Piedmont is the very common, Drum is very rare, etc.)

(3) Do the T205 back variations command the type of premiums over common backs that the T206s do?

Thanks,
David

Default T205 backs - order of scarcity

I remember reading a really good article on this but can't find it at the moment. Off the top of my head here are the basics ... but others can chime in and correct anything that's not 100% right.

The very toughest is Drum, which is many times rarer than the T206 drum
Next is Hindu, again a very rare back
Blank backs are also exceedingly tough for T205s
Next is Broadleaf, which comes in two sub colors
Then American Beauty, again two sub colors, collectively probably about 2%
Cycle is next....I would guess around 3%
Sovereign, Honest, and Hassan make up the next grouping
Polar Bear is quite common and of course so is SC and Piedmont

Several of these backs have different factories as well.

The keys to this set are the Drum, Hindu (and blank back if you do it).

Default T205 backs - order of scarcity

yes - search for it on the board and you should get the list - it's also on the web and there was a NICE article written by Shawn Adkins talking about this recently - maybe you can find a copy somewhere -

Kinda - for the most part it's LIKE the T206 backs - piedmont 25 is common all the way to Drum being rare

Also Kinda - some people will pay more for the Cycle and American Beauty backs - Broadleaf, Hindu and Drum will DEFINATLY cost a premium IF you can find them.... in a pricerange you're willing to pay...

I believe that the article was in a recent SGC Collector.

Default T205 backs - order of scarcity

Posted By: J Levine

Okay...here is the back list in order of scarcity from most scarce to least. I have kept records on backs in the T205 set for nearly 7 years now.

Drum
Hindu
Broadleaf green
Broadleaf black
Piedmont Fact. 42
American Beauty black
American Beauty green
Cycle
Hassan Fact. 30
Sovereign
Honest Long Cut
Hassan Fact. 649
Sweet Cap. black fact. 42
Sweet Cap. black fact. 25
Sweet Cap. red
Polar Bear
Piedmont fact. 25

Drum is nearly impossible and several times harder than its counterpart in the t206s.

There are premiums paid for certain backs although anything Honest Long Cut and below are pretty common. Even Sovereign, Hassan 30, and Cycle only bring a small premium.

Over the years different backs have gone up and down in the populations and scarcity when new finds hit the market. A few years ago, Cycle and Sovereign seemed scarcer (and Piedmont fact. 42 was nearly unknown) but a few large finds pushed them to become more common (esp. Sovereign).

Hope this helps.

Joshua
